Macbook Pro?????

Veteran  274   outskirts of town |  Subject: Macbook Pro?????Just bought one on Friday, and I'm getting nothing but grief with the wireless. It can't keep a connection for very long!! Anybody else have this problem and possible solutions? I'm not a computer type, but I've shocked the PRAM and changed some router settings, but nothing has worked  Please, no suggestions that I should have bought a PC!! |

Extreme Veteran 3177 | Subject: RE: Macbook Pro????? definately check the router first. make sure you have your connectivity turned off till after the router has completely reset, if you are trying to connect before it is ready that will sometimes mess it up. Not being Familiar with the Mac to much does yours come with an internal Wireless or is it a card/transiever type system? If the router is ok that is the next spot I would check. You can also call Apple I would assume since you have so recently gotten it that they would want to help you out. From what I have heard from friends their customer service is usually pretty decent. |

Veteran 203 , Washington | Subject: RE: Macbook Pro????? AppleCare is free for the first year and generally awesome. (You do generally get what you pay for in terms of tech support with Apple) If restarting the router and laptop don't fix it, I'd try giving them a call. |

The tech fired it up and of course we couldn't duplicate the problem so they gave me a brand new one in exchange!! No complaining, no wheeling and dealing, just here, try a new one and see if it works better!! I'm liking the customer service!! I bought my daughter a Macbook last year, and that thing hasn't even coughed once, so I was a little surprised at this problem with the MBPro! I will try the new one and if it persists will know to replace the router. I think all Macbooks have the airport wireless system built in. At least that's what this unit has. It's what my daughter has as well, and like I said that thing is flawless. Fingers crossed. |

If the problem continues try connecting to your wifi with another laptop that is right next to your macbook pro. If that computer can maintain a signal while yours cannot then we see the problem is somewhere in the macbook pro. I'm pretty good at figuring these things out so if you continue to have problems please feel free to message me and I will see what I can do. |

I then took my daughters older macbook and sparked up the internet. Hers worked just fine while mine would not connect. It's a macbook pro issue, or perhaps Apple is hoping that I'll run out and buy an airport extreme router! Maybe this thing is designed to work better with an N router and not the old one I'm currently using. This is very frustrating! |

I seem to recall having similar issues a while back when I was running an encryption scheme (unfortunately I don't remember which one) the Mac didn't like. Maybe try opening up your router completely for a couple hours and see how it does... |

Veteran 203 , Washington | Subject: RE: Macbook Pro????? Does your router run encryption like WPA or WEP? If you need a password to connect, it likely uses one of those. When I say run the router open, it means turn off all encryption (so WPA or WEP would get disabled at the router and your network configuration on the Mac would need changed as well.). The other option that might help is to set up static IP addresses, although that's pretty involved and should (in theory  ) be unnecessary.Jim |

Extreme Veteran 591 New Port Richey, FL | Subject: RE: Macbook Pro????? I had a similar problem with one of my cousins' Macbooks when they were visiting. Ironically, it was the Macbook Pro that worked fine, and the regular Macbook that didn't work. When I had WPA enabled, the Macbook would get kicked off the network after about two minutes. I wound up turning off security and it worked fine (and nobody is close enough to my house to steal the signal). A few weeks later, the router died. It seems as though this may have been one of the first signs of the router getting ready to let go. |

Expert 1104 Canada | Subject: RE: Macbook Pro????? I have had Macs since early 90's & love'em. They definitely work better with other mac products. I have an airport with the backup & it works great. Also, the "diagnostic" programs seem to work with apple products. Realize that you did not want to hear that, but that's it. You bought a high end Mac...don't stop now!!!  PS. I am not an employee of Apple, etc  |

I was looking for the Borat avatar where he has the one piece on, but had to settle for this one! So far so good. No drops yet, but I don't like having my wireless unlocked.
