gears won't shift?

1.) I know this might be redundant... but, if you are on a road bike, you are shifting big rings correctly, right? (It is different than shifting the cogs on most bike setups.)

2.) Front derailleur is not adjusted properly. FD adjustment isn't really a beginner wrench job, your shop should fix it for free.

3.) Wiring isn't tight. See above.

IF for some reason your local shop isn't an option, there are some video's on youtube... I really suggest letting somebody show you how to do it the first time though.

Okay thanks, i'll probably take it down to performance bicycle, I'm in arizona. It's not like it's a HUGE deal, i spend almost all of my time on the middle ring.

Is your drivetrain dirty/gunky? When was the last time you cleaned it?

Yeah, thats a pretty common issue with 'new' bikes. The cables stretch and require adjustment, some places even schedule a 'new bike tune-up' cause they expect that sort of thing.
