For those of you who race with tubulars...

If/when you carry a spare during the race, do you preglue it or just hope that the residual glue on the tire and more cautious riding will be enough to keep the spare tubular in place?

x2 on the pre-glued...as a matter of fact...literally 2 seconds ago I pulled out my spare tubulars in the hotel room and looked at the glue because I glued them 2 years ago - the glue seemed a little dry, so will probably add another film of glue to them before dropping off my bags tomorrow.  good luck Jeremy!

i carry a can of vittoria pit stop and pray to the tubular gods that i don't get a flat bad enough to wreck the tire. . that is because i have never changed a tubular before and don't want to learn out on the course    unprepared, yes.

^^^ I usually add a layer of glue once a year on my spare.

My first choice if I get a flat is try Pitt Stop as it is quick and easy.

I assume the pit stop is similar to hutchinson Fast-air.
Compressed c02 with a goo-like substance that helps to fill small holes/cracks in tubular.

Thanks for the feedback. Off to find me some gloves to put this glue on.

Such a glowing response that I'm going to try it all next training year. If it works as well as reported, i may stop carrying spare tubulars when i race...

The only thing I did not want in my last race was a flat.  So i pretreated each tire with Pit-Stop.  $30 of insurance against small holes.  Still, I carried a pre-glued tubular in a saddle bag but did not carry another tube of pit-stop.

I have tried to use it 4 times, it has worked 0 times... This is on both Tubs and Clinchers. I find Tufo Extreme sealant to work better, but it takes longer to use. I have also used the Hutchinson version, comes in a silver can with flexible tube. Bit tricky to get the end on the tire's valve tight though.

With the Pit stop, I find it tends to go everywhere but in the tire. I tried the last can on a tire I have with a slow leak, it blew the inner tube out by the stem and went every where.... thumbs down for Pit Stop.

Carry it and a spare pre-glued tubular & CO2. Also carried a carbon mini-pump for my HIM. Luckily didn't flat because it was a rainy day; ironically, all the flats I saw were clinchers.

Thanks for the info.  I've always felt uneasy about relying on the pit stop during a race when I've never actually used it.
