Subject: Knee, will a compression sleeve help?
Just started running 3 weeks ago and tri training a week ago. I am 290lbs was 300+ when I started running. I ran my 1st 5k yesterday and my left knee on the inside is sore. I am figuring this is from being so damn heavy and just starting running. I am wondering if a knee brace or compression sleeve will help my knee out? Just curious thanks!

Probably too much too quick. I'm 200lbs, I just started back running about 6 weeks ago and I've yet to do a 5k. Im going with the plan more runs is better than 1 long run. It seems to go fine, im right on the threshold of what me feet/legs will take. The following is a post from a different forums, hopefully i wont get banned for posting a link, http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=1612485  &nbs... The following is from the advance beyond beginner stage article. Alot of it is hard to understand but I did come away with some really good ideas on how not to hurt myself.

Since this is admittedly a cookie cutter approach to training, I can’t take into account your starting point. That is something that you will have to subjectively decide on your own. I recommend, however, that you look at the amount of time you currently spend running each week and move to that part of the plan. If you are truly a beginner and run less than 90 minutes a week, simply scale back the first week to a desirable starting point.

The main goal here is to slowly build your mileage at a rate that is gradual enough for the body to recover from. I also incorporate a hard/easy approach and focus on building the long run. Keep in mind that every run needs to be done at a conversational pace which should put you at ~1:30-2:30/mile slower than 5K race pace or 65%-80% of maximum heart rate.

Each day’s run is listed in time spent running in minutes.

Week 1: 15 – 15 – 15 – 15 – 15 – 15 – 0 = 1:30
Week 2: 16 – 15 – 16 – 15 – 15 – 17 – 0 = 1:34
Week 3: 17 – 15 – 17 – 15 – 15 – 19 – 0 = 1:38
Week 4: 18 – 15 – 18 – 15 – 15 – 21 – 0 = 1:42
Week 5: 19 – 15 – 19 – 15 – 15 – 23 – 0 = 1:46
Week 6: 20 – 15 – 20 – 15 – 15 – 25 – 0 = 1:50
