Sorry for starting yet another "looking for" thread.

Are there any resources that list out all long course races for 2010? I am really interested in finding one that I can compete in prior to the end of May. As stated in so many other threads - this means that all "branded" races are sold out. I don't know where to find other races that may not be sold out. And due to work constraints (I learned the hard way training for a HIM this year) I must get the race done by June 1, 2010 or risk having to wait until 2011 to do so. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Does your use of "long course" include HIM?   Or IM only?  I am not aware of any early season independent IMs

IM St. George is May 1 and Community Fund spots are still available.  If your company has a matching gift program, it is not too expensive and the donation portion is tax deductible.

Perhaps I should have used the term "ultra distance?" IM distance is what I'm looking for. And unless I go to New Zealand or somewhere like that, it's not looking good for 2010...

I'm still a noob for all this... What's a community fund spot? And it would be awesome to get my company on board (they certainly are big enough). What's the best way to do that? Anybody have luck with this?

Community Fund is an entry where you pay the $525 like everyoe else, then add another $800 or so on top o that.  The money is used for local charities in the race community.  Big benefit is you can transfer your entry to any other CF race the next year if there is a problem.  Plus, extra money is a tax writeoff,,,,  and they usualy give CF entrants some cool extra swag they don't give to regular entrants.

I did IMAZ that way, worth every penny

Next year's IM races community fun price went down to $1100.

Check out all the Ironman brand races, dates and if registration is open for regular registration or just community slots. Some of the international races are early if you are willing to go outside the US.

Ironman Community Foundation Slots:

Slots will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis and will each cost $1,100.00 USD, which includes athlete registration and a $550.00 tax-deductible donation to The Ironman Foundation, Inc., a not-for-profit organization. One hundred percent of all donations made to The Ironman Foundation, Inc. will be distributed to various local organizations and charities based in St. George.

FAQ with link to register for St. George: http://www.ironmancenter.com/commfund/index.php

If your company wants to help suppot you, even better!  Had not gotten into IMFL through general entry, I would have paid the $550 entry fee and written a check for $275 as my company matches tax-deductible donations like these.

Company matching??? Hadn't thought about that.

How does it work? I know with my company, I'd have to send in the money first, then the charity sends a letter to my company to request the match. Do you think the folks at Ironman & Co. would go for that?

There are also other races beside official M-Dot ones.  Use Trifind or some other resource to look around to see what independent options there are.  Because of the whole "winter" aspect of the US, there are not going to be as many available.  Traveling would perhaps be the best bet for finding an early season race.

From the community fund FAQ page:
FAQ Symbol  My employer will match donations, how do I do this?
  • 1) Have your employer write a check to NASCF (ICF for all 2010 events, except Subaru Ironman Canada)in the desired amount. (To expedite tax donation letters, an email address of your employer/ donor is requested).

2)If matching donations are presented, made payable to the NASCF (ICF for 2010)and cleared by the bank, a check will be issued to you as a refund of your original tax deductible portion in the amount of the match submitted. The refundable matching amount, back to an athlete cannot exceed the portion of an athletes’s contribution that is fully tax-deductible under U.S. law. Any amount donated above this will be considered as a charitable tax deductible donation by the contributing donor.

3)Please have your employer mail the check to the following addresses:

For the remaining 2009 events & 2010 Subaru Ironman Canada
    NASCF
    Attn: Paula Newby-Fraser
    PO Box 235150
    Encinitas, CA 92023-5150

    For all 2010 events:
    ICF
    Attention: Jennette Harshman
    270 N Rocky Point Dr, Suite 1250
    Tampa, FL 33607

4)Please make sure your name and race are included in the memo portion of the check:
Example: John Smith; Lake Placid 2010
