AM post!

Hello

I was doing my final training run this morning before I race this Saturday and as I was finishing my 1st mile loop the back of my right knee just tightened up. I tried to stretch it out and continue but the pain came right back. I then took the long walk of pain home.

I have an appointment today at 340 with my PM care doctor.

The pain is right behind my knee joint in the meaty area and up my thigh in both of the main tendons. Plus the very top inside part of my tibia is throbbing.  If I keep my leg straight no real issues but if I bend my knee like sitting in a chair major pain when I straighten my leg back out.   When I walk and lift my right heal to move my leg forward the pain comes back.

I hope I am not ti-s-up for the weekend.

Bummer
Kevin

PM Post

Hello

Went to my doctor this afternoon.

Not looking good.  It looks like a torn meniscus in the right knee.  The back of my knee is swollen pretty good & it looks like some bruising.

I am stunned right now sitting here at work thinking that my first season of triathlon may be over after 1 race (16 August).  Knocked out 4 days before race two when my training was going so well.

I have another appointment in AM with a sports therapy group to get a second look at the knee.

I still have thoughts of swimming & biking only Saturday but wonder if I should just shut it down and turn my sights towards next year.

I am so bummed

Kevin

Go to www.activerelease.com and find an ART guy in your area.  He could possibly have things worked out for you before the race.  Seriously! ! ! !

Too much to go into right now, but I will have bad muscle or tendon problems crop up, and I'll go to my ART guy for a session or two, and I'll be back to full strength.

Go, Go, Go. . . .

I do not see anyway that ART to could improve a TORN meniscus. If it was a tight muscle or ligament only yes but when something tears..well that sucks and usually requires time, sometimes surgery, and sometimes lots of pain meds...

Here is to hoping it is nothing serious and you heal quickly! My knee issues (not as serious as yours sounds but still sucky) knocked me out at the end of June after only 1 race. at least I had not registered for my other 2 yet. If you cant race see if you can get a medical waiver and be able to do the race next year instead of this year???

Oooops. . . .

Sorry. . .    I didn't read the part about the tear.

Your right, ART wouldn't help that. . .

I tore my meniscus in college playing basketball. I thought I could ice it and do some light training. I ended up causing some extra damage and needed orthascopic surgery to fix. I would highly recomment waiting on doc's approval to continue any training reguarding the knees.

Hello

I decided to try to swim to night since I dont kick.  It went pretty but I am done with everything until the smart guys decide the scope of the injury.

I feel your pain. Within a week of finishing my 2nd race this year my gall bladder acted up and had to be removed, a day after a 6.5 mile run, and that put me out of any running for a month. Because of that I missed my 3rd race. My last race is coming up on the 27th and I tore my toenail off last Friday. I think someone is trying to tell me something but I'm not going to listen.
