Subject: Short of breath & tight chest during and after workouts

During the past few weeks I have been increasing my endurance workouts significantly.  Last week I put in a lot of miles running and biking.  I have noticed that over the past couple weeks my chest seems a little tight and I feel like I can't get as much air as normal.  I have no history of asthma and only mild allergies at worst.  I live in the midwest and according to news sources we are in a peak allergy season right now.

I am wondering if my body is reacting to the increase in training volume or possibly reacting ragweed.  My sinuses are fine and I wouldn't have guessed allergies could make me short of breath.  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Tighness in the chest and shortness of breath is not something you should ignore. I would recommend you see your M.D. Seriously, it may be nothing but you can never be too sure; especially if it lasts for more than a few minutes at a time.

I'm an MD and I agree.  Go see a doc.

Yeah

Thanks for the heads up  - I just googled it and it appears it could be caused by quite a number of things - probably nothing major but nonetheless - I'll have the doc check me over.

Thanks
