Subject: locking your bike in transition -- huh??
So during a fit of avoiding work tonight, I was reading various IM sites, and I came across this from the IM Switzerland site:

"Moreover we strongly recommend you to lock your bicycle in the transition zone even during the race"

Huh?  Now, granted, I'm a guy who doesn't lock his house, and leaves his keys in the ignition where they're easy to find, but really?  Is it really necessary to lock your bike up during the race?  I've been to Zurich many times, and didn't notice it to be a hotbed of criminal activity....  And even if bike theft is a problem there -- during a race????

It's a ruse to make others in that age group take more time in transition

Honestly I'm suprissed it doesn't happen more at races, like a kid in a candy store. I have not been to Zurich, it could be the way the race is set up or that someone has exposed security, or it could be a liability precaution. Im just thankful there isnt a big market for $3000 tri bikes, Ive had all of my training/race gear stolen along with my new truck, I would go ballsitic if someone nabbed my bike. I would think swapping out race wheels or gear bags would be an easy catch, less visible than a new bike, easy to sell.
I need to move where you are, I live in a middle class neighborhood and have had my house broken into, both vehicles boken into several times, both cars stolen at different times, and my workplace gets robbed quaterly.

There was a race I think 70.3 in Monaco where lots of the pro bikes were stolen overnight a couple of years ago. Maybe same folks put on this race and some type of legal suggestion/obligation.

I'm impressed the lengths you go to avoid work finding very unique IM rules
