The volume is lower than what I've been doing, but I have to remind myself I have a long way to go so enjoy it now. My "long" ride Saturday didn't even make me tired enough to take a nap Saturday. Bummer. Won't be long until I'm crashing after those rides. Train safe and have fun. Week 29 and my Swim and Bike are coming along nicely. First open water swim of the year is Sunday. One of my favorite local Tri-shops, Mr. Crampy's, is hosting a OWS clinic on drafting and pack swimming. Sounds like fun. My long rides are building up to 65miles with 3500 - 5k ft of climbing. Run has been set back by an inflamed achilles tendon. Back on Ice and Nsaids for the first time in 18 months. I'm able to run short stuff, but I'm very tender after my weekend 13 milers. Taking it easy. No speed work, sprints, or hill repeats for me until I get this under control.

I'm glad to be following a plan again, and I'm mostly trying to figure out how to organize my workouts NOW before the rides and runs start getting long. While all the workouts are still short I'm enjoying weekends off of training, but I know that won't last long! I'm figuring I'll be picking up the distance right after volunteering at IMTX, which should provide good motivation for me to really get back into it.How is everyone doing? I know I was happy to get back to following a plan. The volume is lower than what I've been doing, but I have to remind myself I have a long way to go so enjoy it now. HaHa. My "long" ride Saturday was an hour. I didn't really know what to do the rest of the day. This week it's 1.5 hours. It's what's on the plan. I know it will seem like no time at all, though, until those truly long rides come. I'm still trying to figure out if I can make it out to IMTX to spectate and possibly volunteer. Need to figure that out quickly. |

And the tail end:
Worth 4.5 hours of suffering, don't you think? |

Need to figure that out quickly. Let me know if you make it to town and we can meet up on the course somewhere. I live 2 miles from the run course so I'll be around all day. I think I'm going to volunteer at a water stop on the run course mid-afternoon but otherwise I'll just be running around. LOVE the pig medal! I now want to do that race just for the medal, that is awesome! |

So the question on this one.... Is it feasible to register on line for AZ? Or is it a madhouse scramble and really hit or miss on if you'll make it in during the online registration period? And if that's too hit and miss (we don't want to chance not making it), is it pretty much a 100% guarantee you'll get in if you attend the 2012 race to do on-site registration for the 2013? We don't live in AZ, so its not entirely "convenient" to attend. How has it been in the past for this race??? |

It's nice weather around that time of year, you can ride the IM course and just get familiar with the area! |

We don't live in AZ, so its not entirely "convenient" to attend. How has it been in the past for this race??? For the past 3 year the online registration has closed in less than 10 minutes. WTC offers a 100% promise that if you volunteer a certain number of hours, and get the Volunteers T-shirt, and stand in line early monday morning, you will get to register. Best opportunity to get in is the volunteer and stand in line monday morning in the volunteers line. Thats what I did. There was a seperate line for on-site registeration that was to open after all the volunteers in line were given the opportunity to register. After I registered, on the way back to my car, I counted between 1500 - 2000 volunteers in line by 8am Monday morning. I was told 4500 volunteers helped in some way or another to host the event in Tempe. obviously not all of the vols register for the race. There are other ways to get in to the race. |

It sold out online in about 7 min this year, so have everything ready, review other race entries before hand to get familiar with the registration layout on active, have all your info ready to go (contact numbers, usat number, credit card etc.), have a good high speed connection, and cross your fingers-----not while typing though because it may slow you down, cross them after you hit submit. |

Veteran 416 Denver | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread TL2 - 2012-04-25 3:11 PM I am also in for IMAZ this year. This will be my first full IM. I too am doing the Fink plan. It feels good to have "officially" started. I have hotel booked and in a month or so will start looking at airfare. I still haven't decided on doing the tri bike transport vs bringing my bike on the plane. I think there is plenty of time to figure that one out. Looking forward to lots of good tips and tricks from the veterans on this race.
Hey TL, Good luck with your training and racing. I live in your neck of the woods. Where do you go for your long rides? I'm heading to AZ this year, as a volunteer. But I'm driving down. I've got the time & I figured paying for gas would be a LOT cheaper than a plane ticket & bike transport fees. I would reccomend Pro Bike Express, if you choose bike transport. I've never heard one single bad thing about them......only positive!!!!

Exactly. I was able to get in online this year. I was waiting for about 20 minutes beforehand hitting refresh over and over. Once it went live I went through as fast as possible. Two tips: - Fill out a registration for another so you know what to expect. I used St. George and Louisville as they were live at the time. - Don't waste time filling out every answer. They have a lot of questions that have a required answer. I just typed NA and went to the next one.
Good luck! |

Champion 10550 Austin, Texas | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Hi Everyone! Just checking in to see how all of the Fink's are doing? With moving from the UK to the USA in a little under a month I'm finding things a tad difficult at the moment... I cancelled my gym membership about a month and a half ago and now the only pool I have access to is the 20m pool at work (and it's not open early mornings/later in the evenings or on the weekends) and my bike was shipped to the US at the end of April so the only thing I can do is either ride a stationary bike at work, or try to get into one of the 5 spin classes offered which are only 40 minutes long. I've also got 10 days in Vancouver before moving to the US so I won't even have a pool during that time - though I think there's an acquatic centre within a 30 minute drive from where I'll be staying. Any ideas or words of wisdom that might help? |
