cdban66 - 2012-08-01 7:25 PM  Unlike yesterday, today I am going to try to get work done while I'm at work. Thank you for keeping the handball jokes to a minimum.

I absolutely kid you not ... I'm watching men's kayak slalom and the commentator just said, VERBATIM:

"It's so important to be tight around the pole and go in and out quickly."

No truer words were ever spoken.

Really, "It's so important to be tight around the pole and go in and out quickly." and "paddling" in the same thread.

Another day of getting no work done

Alright, well, as long as we are starting out the morning right: http://i.imgur.com/p3KyX.jpg

I'll go ahead and say slightly NSFW (which you know is bad if I'M saying it) although I just had a huddle of female coworkers around my desk from showing this. Guys...be warned.

Anyone think that's some fantastic placing of the scoring?

First, somehow I missed the not safe for work warning and opened the link. I quickly closed it and moved to my personal iPad.Secondly, I watched the men's synchronized diving and don't remember seeing any of these " poses". In future, i will not play words with friends while watching the events.Thirdly, what is that web site? For purely curiosity sake, I wanted to see if they had other artistic photos, but the site seems only to be that one page.

I saw it! It was when he was over in that strange shower against the wall. Even when it was "live" on TV it was shocking hahaha. He's 18 though, don't worry.

I guess I never realized just how low on the body those suits are - that scoring strip is interesting.Oh, I knew he was young, but thought he was older than 18.

bcraht - 2012-08-02 12:47 AM Badminton--Four teams DQ'd for throwing matches!  Unreal.

This is what I wrote about it in the Olympics thread:

The four pairs have been expelled from these Olympic Games.

I watched one of the games in question (Indonesia v S. Korea) and it was pretty bad.

This is the first Olympics that has used the round-robin rather than knockout tournament play to determine advancement and draws. This has created situations where it's more favorable to lose than to win (for oneself and/or one's country) as well as matches in which it's predetermined that one or both sides are going to advance regardless of the outcome.

It's a shame. This unfortunate outcome of the format, and the lousy play, and these women getting expelled from the Games.

I don't know about China or South Korea, nor do I have privileged information about the specific Indonesian pair and this instance. But I can tell you, from personal knowledge of the way official sport works in Indonesia and other controversies, that I am pretty sure the Indonesian women did EXACTLY as they were TOLD to do, and would have had very little effective choice about it.

I forget which one of the knocked out countries it was, but one of the coaches said something like it was his strategy and all the players "agreed "with it.

I'm not familiar with it.

So, to summarize. She lost due to a timing error (15 year old volunteer timer) but to contest, she had to stay out there and wait. If she left the platform that means she would "accept" the decision. They took 45 minutes deliberating and didn't give her the gold. Very controversial ruling.

Anyway, that 45 minutes was just excruciating.
