bzvbtc - 2010-11-17 6:56 AM I just did Ironman Fl and I was looking for something to build core and Flex. I also a break after all the L.S.D.  I had a friend do P90X last spring and he liked so I ordered it this morning. I hope to talk the wife into it she seems mildly interested. Any advice for me pit falls or something need to watch out for? best equipment to buy and where to buy it? I plan to give it a good 90day try!

I use bands for working out for two reasons, 1.way cheaper than dumbells 2.I can bring them anywhere.

I built my own pullup bar and attached to my garage trusses with a steel pipe, two pipe clamps, athletic tape for around $6.00

Bodylastics and Beachbody have good bands

Irongym seems to be a popular pullup bar you can get at Target

Also will need a 5x5 piece of cardboard

Old but sturdy towel

You may not need it but I also got a yoga block at target to help with support during Yoga.

Is anyone here a beachbody coach? I have bought P90X and am going to start the first of the year so I am going to subscribe to their membership to get more nutrition plan info but they have put some random coach on my screen who it seems like is just a reseller of the products and equipment not a 'coach'. But it seems like this random person is going to get money from me signing up, so I figured I could at least get a BT bud the money instead. Let me know what your screen name or coach id is if there is any out there.

Sorry for the late reply. Its for pushups , held under one hand so that as you go down you allow it to slide out, then as you go up it slides in.

Me, me, me! Seriously, I'd love it if you switched to be under me. I will actually help you (as much as you'd like) with the program along the way, with any schedule or exercise modifications you might need, how to fit it in with SBR, etc.

My coach name is mspina, and my id number is: 18189.

You can email: [email protected] and request the change. It'll take a day or so to get into the system - then you should see me show up as your coach when you log onto your Beachbody account (first, sign up for the free account if you haven't already - you can then upgrade any time).

I'm excited to see another tri-P90Xer! I'm a huge, huge fan of the program.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, or would like to know more about me.

My general advice is to stick with it and really and truly log your workouts as Tony reminds you. You can make incredible strength gains if you really push yourself each week, but you can only do that effectively if you know what your goal is for each exercise. What I typically do - quickly eye up what I did last week (that'll also tell you what weight to grab for the upcoming exercise), and see how many reps I did. Then, I'll try to get out at least ONE more rep. If I got to 15 reps with good form, I make a note that next week, it's time to up the weight. I will then typically drop down to getting out 8-10 reps with the new, heavier weight, and start the process over again.

If you have non-coated dumbbells, a product called Plate Mates (http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=platemate&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=4307858357&ref=pd_sl_55zocvm6du_e) is extremely helpful for making smaller weight increases (a set is 2.5lbs). This was very useful for me when a 5# jump was just too much.

Also, don't give up on YogaX! MANY people find the yoga workout to be difficult and/or feel it's a "waste" of a workout day. Yes, it's difficult, but do your best, and stick with it, and you'll see great flexibility gains as well. It's good stuff.

Feel free to ping me if you have any questions along the way! I'd also love it if you signed up under me as your coach if you don't have a coach that you like already. I just posted info on how to do this a few minutes ago.

Good luck, and enjoy!!!!

tikicult - 2010-11-08 8:57 PM I just started the P90X today for the off-season. That was one killer workout... I am looking forward to see what else is in store and shedding some of this fat.

How did Phase I treat you???? I distinctly remember how shocked I was when I started Phase II. By then I was feeling GREAT and sort of "all that," and then I did Chest, Shoulders, Triceps for the first time and was SERIOUSLY humbled.

I hope that all is going well and that you are still Bringing It every day!

I am on week 7 of P90X. We (wife and I) are doing the lean version of it, but I can really tell I have made some gains in strength across the board. I am really enjoying the pain it brings!  LOL

I also just finished week 7 - I only do the MWF strength workouts, but I definitely feel stronger already! Yesterday, I did my first chin-up from a dead hang completely unassisted!

I can't wait to see the results at 90 and 180 days! (Planning on doing the program twice through.)

Well, I am now into week #6 and I am seeing some major changes in my numbers. I am stronger, and can keep up with the Plyo workout! I can't keep up during Ab Ripper yet, however. Overall, I am pleased with the improvements to my numbers. I am disappointed that I haven't lost any weight and have actually gained a few pounds. My arms and legs are becoming defined, but my mid section hasn't changed at all. My pants and shirts actually fit a bit tighter than normal now. I am tracking my food intake and eating a normal calorie deficit like I do during the tri season, but its not working. I am gonna stick with it of course and see what happens.

Does anyone have a digital copy of the P90X 90 day work out log. I'd like to keep it on my computer and add the weights and reps to it. Beats paper... Sorry if someone already asked this.

I am into week 2. I already see strength/rep improvement. I am also a hole smaller on my belt. Don't know my measurements but I am going in the right direction.

what are your IM goals?  I ask as I dont think P90 is a good program to integrate into IM training as you will need the time and energy for SBR and I dont know that I see the upside to doing the P90 with it.

IM goals are just to finish this one... IM SG is a tough course so I was looking to integrate strength training/core work into it.... My plan (advanced 17wk) will ramp up and I'll have to cut some of the p90x workout out. This week I'm doing coresynergistics, arms/shoulders, ab ripper, yoga, and legs.. I've also been lucky b/c I don't work until thursday night so I've been off all week to pretty much train.

Just got the P90X dvds.  Just curious, and it's probably a personal preference, but how do most of you log your p90x workouts?  I noticed that p90x is listed in the "add a sport" section, but to me, most of the things (at least on the dvd I saw last night) are strength training items.  Again, I know it's probably personal preference, but just curious what most of you do.

I log the strength days as strength, the yoga day as yoga, the Kenpo day as kickboxing, the stretching day as stretching, and the plyometrics day as plyometrics. That way it is an accurate representation of what I am doing.

My concern would be the fact that you are saying you are starting the full program and that you are intending to do that at the same time.  If anything, I would pick a few programs you like to sprinkle in during the week (2-3 tops) based on what you feel like doing.  I think you can add in ab ripper as well and if I had to make a choice, I would probably lean towards keeping the yoga and maybe rotating a strength day disc.  Personally, I think you are better off sticking to the IM plan and sprinkling in P90 workouts vs trying to cram both plan and program in.  A well structured IM plan should give you plenty to help build necessary strength and endurance.  You can add to that sport specifically by riding hills, doing intervals, etc.  I think core strength helps to an extent but as a primarily aerobic event, i think the gains from p90 would be minimal vs time spent on SBR.  If there is a question of opportunity cost, I think the best answer is hit your IM program hard and have fun with P90 from time to time but you will probably value recovery rest more than doing P90 down the road.  I did almost zero strength training for each of my IMs and stuck to riding lots of hills and putting in the miles.  I just didnt have the time for strength.  I like P90 a lot as a program, but see it more as building strength in areas I wont need on race day- better for off season body comp.  Work the flexibility and some of the core stuff but dont think 3 days of the lifting is needed or a good idea.

primarily log it as p90 but sometimes put the yoga as yoga.  not too huge a concern for me.

Agree it's personal preference and no wrong way to do it.

For me, I logged everything as "p90x" because I wanted to see the total time accumulated doing it.  Now that I am off the program, when I do a p90x workout I log it as Yoga or stretch or strength etc as mandy mentioned.

Good luck!

I agree... I'm primarily doing just the yoga, strength and sometimes coresyergistics routine... During my IM training last year I def didnt' do ANY lifting. I'm hoping this time around with the added endurance from last year that strength training will benefit me. I would love to get outside and do hills but alas with winter being full force I'm gonna have to wait.
