Anyone else have one crazy, cold Turkey Trot?? It was about 8 degrees at start. What a wonderful way to start Turkey Day!

I finally hit the trail yesterday and it was tough!  I went out on the crushed gravel kind (Eric - from LA Fitness west to Shady Oak and back) and it was not so packed like it was in years past.   I got sick of that so turned early and headed for the plowed streets of Hopkins and was faced with ice -  a new fun challenge for the muscles.

I remember really enjoying winter runs, but it seems so very difficult lately!  I need to invest in a new pair of Yaktrax or something.  I lost one last year and kind of gave up on it, but the stabilization required for icy roads is just too much.

Yeah, the trails have been looking pretty crappy, so I have been staying to the roads.   The weather and roads were both great Yesterday.  No whining from me!

I was going to say - who would resurrect this thread on a day like today?

I biked out into St. Louis Park and the trails were mushy and sometimes thick with snow.  Hopkins does a great job of path clearing.  Too bad it's only a few miles.

So, typical Minnesota like fun today - eh?  If we didn't have fenders on the mountain bike, I would be tempted to try it out today   Instead I worked hard on strengthening my core while shoveling!

We have officially achieved 20 inches. We shoveled this AM, when we only had about 10. I am looking forward to shovelling again...but maybe it will all blow away!

There's no way to tell how much snow we have gotten.  It just keeps whirling around out there.  I think there's a drift about 4' tall now between the house and the barn.  I'll have to bust through that when I go back out to feed.

And since this is whining thread... We had to have the vet out again.  Yep, seems like once a year, on the worst possible day, a horse decides he needs to see a vet.  This time it was Skipper (our 32 yr old) who seemed to have a achy belly.  Since horses can't throw up, an achy belly can turn very serious in a hurry.  I spent a couple hours walking him before and after the vet came out.  He's fine and only had to have a little shot of pain meds.  At his age, we don't mess around though.  Happy it worked out for the good.

That doesn't sound like much fun, Pattie.  Hope the animals (and you!) are safe and sound with the really cold stuff settled in now.

Happy to report the old guy is doing fine today.  Jeremy is attempting to get the tractor out and start on the driveway.  So far, I'm avoiding going out, but I'm sure that will have to end soon.

We're with you Peteweb. We normally shovel our drive and an ice rink on our lake. I think we'll be getting a snow blower in 2011!

I actually got out in SHORTS yesterday! And running under the Lake / Marshall bridge and the rail bridge by Shriner's Hospital (along River Road in St. Paul), I was actually DRIPPED on! By MELTING snow! That was a positive run!

I must have missed the bus here, but that certainly doesn't sound like whining...

In related news, yay for ice on the roads by tomorrow!

Yeah, those puddles are going to turn into ice skating rinks.  Joy!  Of course I have a long run scheduled for this weekend, when it will be 30 degrees colder

I'll throw out some whining.  As many of you know, I have this ridiculous driveway that's 1/10 mile long and gets wicked drifts from shifting winds.  Yesterday Jeremy ran the tractor and snowblower before we went to town.  When we got back, it was filled in, but for some (stupid) reason, I tried to power through it...in the Civic.  Got stuck and had to shovel the car out.  Yes, I know that I've done this exact thing before with the same results.   There was a note in the mailbox from the UPS driver that he had attempted delivery but couldn't get down the driveway because of the drifts.  Understandable.  I called the driver and tried to convince him to come back since we could get it cleared enough for him.  No go.  I really need that delivery!  It's my SNOW tires for the Civic and it looks like I kind of need them.  Now it's raining and I can't imagine what a mess that driveway is now with piles of slush all around.  Maybe I can convince the UPS dude to drop the tires at the road and we'll pull them in on the hay sled.  Why do I live here?

Pattie - that's so country!

(It's very funny that he's got your snow tires - geez.  Yeah, I'd go with the end of driveway suggestion...)

Ha! Yeah silentcs42, I've never been a good whiner.

And Emily, I moved my long run up to enjoy the weather! But that means I have intervals tomorrow.... I'm heading to the Coliseum at the State Fair Grounds, and I'll let you know how that goes.

Good driveway news!  Around lunch time, I looked out and saw the propane truck rumbling down the road and turn into the driveway.  Right behind him was a brown UPS van.  Not wanting to be one-upped by the Greenway truck, UPS dude braved the driveway and delivered my snow tires.  I'm sure he would not have come down the driveway if not for the heroic efforts of the Greenway driver.  After that, Jeremy  scraped some slush around enough for me to get the truck out and do some errands while he put the snow tires on the Civic.  Yay, I have snow tires.  Too bad it's 40* tonight.

I suppose it's OK not to whine.  My 3 year old does more than enough for all of us.

Feel free to call me Dan as well.

I, too, am interested in hearing about your exploits at the fairgrounds.
