Good thoughts to Melanie for dealing with life's challenges!

Ohhhh-la-la!  Looks like a Sexxeh Seven... with a bonus duo.  And to top it off, Chris is going to jump out of his birthday cake to celebrate all the awesome Manatee racing Laughing

If the fantasticality of this coming week doesn't help the DL list heal up, I don't know what will...besides proper rest and treatment. Wink

Sorry I have been AWOL a bit for the last week. I hope everyone really enjoyed their racing this weekend, or that you have a great time if you haven't done it yet.

Really bad week training and Jogo wise this week, unless driving my dog 45 minutes back and forth to the vet to get her knocked up counts as Jogo, but I really don't think so.

I'm in for the 100 days of 10 minutes of abs, starting Monday, maybe by summer I can be rid of my muffin top and rock my tri outfit.

Speaking of which someone mentioned a Fachmie tri suit. Maybe it could say "Fachmie its a Manatee"

and for Lesa (I think that it was you that asked) whopper is a hamburger - think Big Mac and you are fairly close , made by Burger King or Hungry Jacks here in the southport of the earth.

Originally posted by bcraht I learned a couple things on my bike and run today.  First, in the past couple weeks, I have finally started to 'get' the push and pull of my foot in my shoe when pedaling.  It definitely makes climbing easier.  The second thing I have learned, unfortunately, is that I think focusing on that aggravates my Achilles...  When I first injured it, I had recently done some ILT, so I wonder if pulling up on the pedal is the precipitating factor.  Doesn't totally bode well for my cycling...

Ouch, please be careful. I know how much you fought through the hurt, and I hope you don't go back there.

I'm trying to picture this better. Trying to figure out what part of this is aggravating the achilles. What do you mean by "pulling up"? The farthest around I really try to do something useful is into the bottom of the pedal stroke. Just far enough for the other leg to take over with its push. The back part just kind of comes around.

Also, what's ILT? Can't seem to remember.

Pulling back is maybe the better description--at the bottom of the pedal stroke.  It may not be related, but it sure seems suspicious that I have Achilles irritation when I focus on it.  ILT=isolated leg training.

I was afraid that was what it stood for and if it's anything like one-legged pedal drills ... DO NOT. DO NOT. DO. NOT.

One of the banes of my tri existence trying to eradicate that from the face of the Earth (that, and deliberate oxygen deprivation while swimming).

They do not help. They can and do injure.

There's only one thing you really need to focus on. Push the pedal down and try not to have a dead leg on the other side (but even that's not so important).

And ride lots.

Aw Yanti you know I love a hypoxia breathing set . You never know in life when it may be useful to hold your breath . Actually we don't do much of this these days breathe 6 with pull is the most and I just breathe when I want. Rebel

Big dif between breath control sets (which is mostly what piglet Johnny does) and full-out hypoxic training, which he forces on you guys only occasionally Tongue out

What is this and why would one not want to do it?

I think when johnny makes me swim 4x 25m underwater with fins. I'm okay at this I've never asked why we do it. I'm his slave - he says it I do it

Yay that you're joining the core challenge.  I think it's going to be great :)

Hey Stacey--hope your dog is preggers.  Is she a Mastiff?

I like "Fachmie it's a Manatee"--hilarious.  I really would be a big fan of having Fachmie somewhere on the kit.

I know about the Whopper burger (if you grew up in the States in the 80s you almost have to know about it), but I thought I might be missing out on another inside joke because of the way Yanti used it.

Yay!  Another challenge taker.

I know everyone is saying no pics, but it might be fun to take them--even if you don't show them to anyone--just as a cool, look how far I've come thing.  Not that it's about aesthetics, it's just a little tricky with abs to have a functional measurement, but maybe I'm overlooking something.  I do that  a lot:)

Good Morning all. I hope all is well with Manatees near and far. I have been checking in, but work has been a bit much lately, so it cuts into my BT time. Darn Job!!!!

Go Racers, Heal injured and keep JoGoing!!! Congrats to all that are at 100%, and to all who took on the challenge. You ALL rock.

Jo - I am one day short of 100%. Today's Pub Ride will be 32/33 I think. I am going to continue until June 27th.

Switch - I like the core challenge, but not for me. I will be keeping the Fine China that is my abs wrapped in the bubble wrap for safety sake Good luck on AG Nats.

Judi - I really hope that the bike saga can get finalized. Somehow. It has gone on way too long and you have my condolences that this continues. So Frustrating!

Yanti - I follow Lieto on Twitter and I was expecting to see him tweat about you. How awesome is it that you got/get to spend time with him. Enjoy it!!!! And smile, cry, and think about your Dad on Sunday. I know I will be thinking of you as well. Race as only you can.

TJ - I am sorry for your loss. He sounds like a wonderful person. Obviously he was loved, and affected others. What more can one ask for in their life? I'm going against standard Manatee practice, but I think DS2 is a smart young man and should concentrate on Med School. Racing will always be an option in life, and shorter races give you both many an opportunity to be together.

Janyne - You Are Awesome! Thanks for the G+ hangout, I'll be in. ([email protected]) And for the race list and for the inspires and for being a motivating factor for my improvement.

Kirsten - I hope yo have de-bugged from your run.

TW is so awesome, we were working on some music we are doing for an ordination this weekend and she asks if I would like a new guitar. Um, let me think about it for a nano second. "OK, yes I would!" My current Guild guitar is about 16 years old and it is getting to the point of needing refurbishing. It has been really good to me, and sounds awesome, but it is showing signs of aging. I have played it in church, at home, on stage and about anywhere else you can think of. I will keep it, it has a lot of character. But it is time, so after much searching, I will be receiving a Martin this week. For those that are not familiar, in the pantheon of accoustic guitars, Martin and Taylor are 1 and 1A. Needless to say, I am really excited.
Enjoy the weekend everyone!

ATTENTION JOGO'ers:

It is that time of the week again.  Please post in my inspires what you have done.  If you have recorded in your logs or my inspires already, don't worry, it is all good.   I have no data or partial data from Darren, Chad, Brie, Ann Marie and Mike.

Good Gaud - I'm not even close to worthy enough to be a JoGo'er...  Remove me from this list please..

You need this. Already said consistency was a problem, so tough luck on that one! Tongue out

Sorry.  You cannot leave (for 30 days).  We are calling you out for accountability and consistency.  Get out there and give me 30 minutes of something today.  Tough Manatee Love!!  Quitting is not permitted.

Grrrrrr - what have I gotten myself into?

I'm at a weird place now... racing next weekend...don't want to overdue anything this week, but don't want to not do anything, as that will equal 2 1/2 weeks of ZERO training before a race... and I know that is no good.

Will do a couple runs, and a couple rides this week.  Not worried about the swim... .then it's race day Sunday... I can't wait!

Is the Expedition Manhalf your A race this year?  And it's August 24?  Might want to train through next week's race, you know?

Yes it is - and you are right...

What was I thinking...

Good thing he has a good sense of humour by the end of the day (evening) I was stealing food off his plate. With my fingers. Then he stole some off mine and nearly got his arm bitten, too.

Also, he has booked personal swim coaching with me tomorrow at 2pm.

Not joking

LMFAO... You are so awesome.  One of the only people I know that can meet a pro triathlete and by the end of the night bite his calf, eat off his plate and have book a swim session with him...

Just Faching Awesome.

Please, please update us as to how the swim coaching went.

P.S. - How are those ugly little cat looking things doing?

Today was the best day of my life.

For many reasons, but mainly because it closed out with a phone call from Mutti and Tina, telling me they loved me and good luck in the race (I am able to be here because Tina volunteered to go to Jakarta in my stead for a bit ... and she's even busier than I am, so so grateful).

Also that Sunday is my father's 100 days after death, which is deeply significant in the Javanese Indonesian tradition. They will be going to his grave to plant flowers, and they think my father would be very proud of me racing that day. Surely blessings and strength will go back and forth, and (SOB) they are going to arrive at his grave at the time I start the race.

Sob sob sob.

By the way, Chris's superhot wife Karis, her mother is also elderly and has Alzheimer's, about in the same stage as Mutti. We cried on each other a lot tonight, for real. In between me stealing food off her husband's plate (I sat between them, of course. Must have max pigletude exposure).

I am sooooooo sooooooo glad to hear you had a wonderful day.  Hopefully many, many more to follow

Good thoughts to Melanie for dealing with life's challenges!

As always, Janyne. You are amazing. I don't know how you keep up with us. Thank you for the work you do for our pod.

Go racers!!!! (Go me!)

ETA: And speaking of me . . . the lake temperature is 82F. Holy Cripes. I'm hot just thinking about it.

And I'm just a tad nervous. This will be my first full oly (because of the cancelled swim last month). This will be my third time on this course, so I've been running through the course in my mind. Because of our Texas travels this week, I won't be able to get to the course until Sunday morning, so no chance for a run through of everything. Although, I am going to try to get in the lake for a practice swim early Sunday morning (Race starts at 7:00 a.m., so it will have to be butt crack early). Two swim loops (of what I'm pretty sure is a short swim course, based on my swim time last year); two bike loops up and over a dam on chip seal roads; two run loops through a ridiculously flat run course through the campground. This course is made for me. (Calming myself down. Calming myself down.)

X2 to Jayne being amazing!  an 82 degree lake! WTF?  That's a hot spring.... I don't know if I could swim in that..

As I've said before, the morning crowd at the pool looks like a scene from Cocoon so I am surprised by the lull as I don't think these folks are affected by the school year, unless they are all teachers?! Is anyone else exeriencing this? Maybe they are all snow birds and went back to the mid-west? I dunno.

On a mixed emotion note... we "lost" a(nother) friend to cancer. We knew it was coming. He was moved to hospice about a week ago. Paul was an aMAZing man of God. That's why I say "lost" in quotes. He really is in a better place. He was in our Bible study group back in Omaha. He was big and scary looking. Scary like Harley rider, shaved head, black t-shirt (seriously that's all he owned), loooong beard. But he was the sweetest guy you could ever know. Awesome smile. He'd help or give in anyway he could. He built the sets for our VBS every year. He loved playing softball with his wife and daughters. His wife always called him by his last name because it suited him better than his first name Smile  He lived long enough to see his girls graduate college and one get married. We'll miss him.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss.  I am going through a similar thing with a friend of mine.  She is 31 - and was diagnosed with Brain Cancer 3 years ago!  They only gave her 3 months to live - it's been 3 years.  I stayed at her house when I went to Denver, and I'm afraid it is close to the end now.  I wouldn't have recognized her if I had bumped into her on the street.

I Faching hate cancer!  Life is definitely not fair.

While I'm thankful for the time I got to spend with her, and I would rather "know" it's coming than get a call that there was a tragic accident, it saddens me greatly to think that this wonderful person will not be with us very much longer.

That is so awesome.  If I could find a woman that would support me like this - I wouldn't be single...

Yanti - how do you feel about moving to Gig Harbor, WA?

So I've been contemplating doing 2014 IM Boulder which WAS a 70.3. Well now for 2014 there is also a full IM option (link)

Apparently I have until July 17 to decide. This one is going to sell. out. fast.

what-to-do-what-to-do-what-to-do.

Getting out of the city once in awhile isn't a bad thing ...

Believe me, I know - but not having a car, living in the city, and being less than 3 blocks from the lakefront trail doesn't give much incentive to go through the pain-in-the-assness of trying to get out to the burbs.

Having said that, I am trying to set up a couple of bike dates with a friend who lives about 60 miles away... in the hills... lots and lots of hills.

Not owning a car is mind boggling to me. However, I've never lived in a city that had decent public transportation.

I would die without a car... I love road trips to damn much.

Two things pod:

1) I have created a core challenge that will start on Monday. 10 minutes a day of core for 100 days.  Would be fun to have any of you join me

2) I just signed up for the waitlist for Age Group Nationals, Oly.  Thanks for the help and encouragement with that.  So if I actually get in maybe I'll meet some of y'all there.

I AM SO GOING TO OWN THIS... I AM IN LIKE THERE IS NO TOMORROW!

I have one of those big balls - complete with the ab workout dvd, and I have never even taken it out of the box.  Ab's are the last stage of my physical transformation.

I would like to suggest that we all take pictures of ourselves every 7 days.  Take the picture with the same camera - wearing the same clothes, and from the same distance.  I did this when I was losing weight, and when I lost motivation a month in, I looked back at my "Day 1" pic, and that current day pic and the transformation was amazing.

IT MOTIVATED ME TO KEEP GOING, because when I looked in the mirror, I only saw Fat Chad, but when I looked at the pictures I said "Is that me, holy crap, this is working!"

Pictures do not lie.

If anyone agrees to the pics - I will volunteer to organize them in an awesome slideshow.  If you allow me to - I will post the pics on my blog (will be easier for me to do the slideshow there).... If you are not comfortable with that - I will post mine on my blog, and I will see about a way to create a slideshow in that Google + group that Jayne created for us...

I am so FACHING pumped for this challenge!  Thank you so much for posting this challenge!!!!

Crap, I forgot my abs after my ride. Remembering is going to be the trick on that one.

Thanks for the screen shots... it's weird that the final numbers are accurate.

I'm pretty sure those glitches were caused by incoming phone calls.

I'm going to ride again today - and will see if I can disable phone calls.

I will be riding at 11:30 PST - and will ride for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

If any of the stalkers Live Tracking App Testers are available to try again, I would love to see if it makes a difference.

I want to do a Google hangout with the Manatee's.  To do this, you need to have Google Plus (free).  If you don't know, this is Googles version of Facebook.

Get Google Plus (super easy to have if you have a Gmail Account), then look for me and add me to your circles.  I will see it, and then add you to my circles... (creating one just for Manatee's).

We can then pick a day and time to make this happen.

Oh yeah baby - this is going to be sooooooo cool!  Can't wait to hear all the accents!

And your Google ID is....

Chad Musgrove

Sadly, while you are unique, your name is not.  Email addy please.

[email protected]

I went ahead and set up a Manatee "community" on Google+.  I invited Chad, Chris and Jen to join since I am connected with them already.

Anyone else, please feel free to join at https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/109453443945893510526

I set it up as a private community but if you want to change it to public, just say so.  (ETA, privacy cannot be changed but we can always remove it and create a new one.)

I thought we could probably do the Google Hangouts in the community?  Still figuring out G+ though, to be honest.

I found it!  Can't wait to do a hangout!

Common Manattee's  - we need more than 3 of us...

Originally posted by StaceyK Sorry I have been AWOL a bit for the last week. Maybe it could say "Fachmie its a Manatee" and for Lesa (I think that it was you that asked) whopper is a hamburger - think Big Mac and you are fairly close , made by Burger King or Hungry Jacks here in the southport of the earth.

+1 for tri suits that say "Fachimie it's Manatee Time!"

With fins? - you puzzie!

Back in the day - I used to swim 3 1/2 laps (85 ish yards) underwater!  JUST BECAUSE I COULD!  LOL
