I hope everyone is ready for an awesome weekend. JoGo - YOWOUCH, that looks rough. And your description of how it happened sounded even worse. Heal quickly. Jo - I hope your dizzy head feeling gets better soon. It seems like this happens on a monthly basis for you. Have you seen anyone about it? Darren - nice observation on the swim. It seems like you are making progress, good on ya! Tom - Race well, race smart. Top on for the swim. I know I left folks out, sorry for that. You can blame (s)witch for the fact that I can't think straight. My abs hurt and I may cry I leave you with this: "There are two ways to face the future. One way is with apprehension; the other is with anticipation." I hope you are anticipating yours. Wow I didn't even notice! But yes it probably does, I'm off all the hormone drugs etc which will take three months to settle down so that could be it. Or it could be the long swim sets I try and do and I'm naughty I never wear my ear plugs and I have been told I should. And I need new glasses! Oh lord put me to sleep already! |

Elite 4435![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013: CLOSED (exc/ Pop Tart bribes)Originally posted by Artemis Originally posted by jobaxas Originally posted by Richardsdrr Originally posted by rrrunner We've had a bit of warm weather, so the plants have had a growth spurt. Couldn't get a proper stroke going on, we were swimming through the plants and getting tangled in them. I had a major panic attack and couldn't calm myself down again, swam about 85% breast stroke. It was really tough going. 4 people got pulled out of the swim, including my bro in law. Not fun. Originally posted by Richardsdrr Had an Aquathlon of two halves. The good, and the bad. Swim was a complete nightmare, but then went on to smash not only my tri 5km time by 3:09, but my standalone 5km time by 1:29 also. So well chuffed with that, but am getting really worried about the swim in a few weeks. Not far off sub 20 min, my target for this year Congrats on the run! Why/how was the swim bad? Did you struggle in the water? I have a real issue with flora in the water! I hate seaweed and the like. I also hate jelly fish - here in silly Australia those things can kill ya. And then there's the sharks. I wonder actually why I love OWS at all! Well done, you got through it. It's probably the worst you'll deal with so next time will be awesome. My trick of late when I get those panicky moments (yes I still get them) is to count 100 freestyle strokes and then I'm allowed 25 breaststroke if I need it. If I don't take it I have to wait for the next 100. It really focusses your mind on something other than the panic and plantlife etc. Dude....I should never watch the nature channels late at night. I saw a special on the Irukandji jellyfish and now I am terrified to ever swim in Australia. I got stung a bunch during the NYC tri and that was bad enough. They're the little fachers that reside in Cairns - hence it's a wetsuit swim even when the water is toasty warm. It's unlikely you'll get stung but even so. The after effects of this sting are terrible - anxiety and paranoia - like stinging you wasn't enough they then mess with your head. Fachers. |

Elite 4435![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013: CLOSED (exc/ Pop Tart bribes)Getting ready to take my DH and daughter to the airport for their month trip to Greece - sadly I'm excited about the training time I'll be able to get in. I'm gonna be badazz for a month with no guilt about not being the best mum/wife etc. Riding outside isn't much happening, piglet Andrew is just back from the states and is going again next week. He trains the trainers over there in Kettle bells etc. He is also training a group doing the Spartan race here on Sunday mornings so riding is out while he runs up and down mountains - sigh he is a hottie. BUT I am no longer worried about the bike - I can't believe it, the fear is gone. I'm training inside, in zone 2 for now. If the weather's nice I get a little ride on the road but it's more for bike handling than anything. Race is 11 weeks away - it's a B race so I'm training right up until race day and I'm gonna smash myself on the swim and the bike and see what falls out for the run! Oh in addition to guilt free training, I've got guilt free computer time, that's pod time, working for Macca time and facebook time. Not to mention reading whatever I've got which is a lot. Oh and while on the trainer it's time to download some tv - I've never seen Arrested Development nor Breaking Bad. Let's get that done. And - myhouse gets cleaned, every drawer and cupboard will be done. I'm so excited. Oh sure I'll miss them... |

New user 53![]() ![]() Knoxville | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013: CLOSED (exc/ Pop Tart bribes)Sorry to be out of the loop. Have had some trouble with motivation. However, I discovered that the YMCA has something called ActivTrax. It is my solution to a trainer for weights and I think its great! First, a trainer from the Y does an evaluation and a strength test. My resting heart rate was 60, BMR - 21 and I am 23% fat. Phew, thought for sure I was more than that. Also on the strength test my legs were weaker than my upper body. Probably all that paddling I do. Paddling as in rafting, not... um... spanking. Explains the slow biking. I get a new workout tailored to me every time I hit the gym. Then I record what I did so that next workout takes into consideration my previous workouts and increases weight accordingly. It focuses on a different body area every workout. I really like this. It takes the 'think' out of my workout. After 30 workouts I get another evaluation all for the low, low price of my membership! The Y is trying to get this system in all of their facilities. Very cool. I travel a lot and for all participating Ys, it knows your profile and gives you a workout tailored to you and that gym's equipment. I say Yay! So motivation in improving and I have a sprint tri next sat. I should probably hit the pool. And maybe pull out the bike. Oh and trot around the block this week. Its a very, very small tri 200m swim, 7 m ride, 4K run. I'll finish. |

A Kiwi piglet and I went to go watch the Oakley Pro Surf championships in Bali and I was thinking of you. I need Manatee input...I am contemplating riding to the TT tomorrow as a warm up. It's about 10 miles from my house, mostly downhill and flat. Will the warm up help if I then have to stand around for my start? I had planned to carry only minimal water in my aero bottle but that will be harder to regulate if I ride there and don't have my car to store supplies. I'd have to carry extra shoes, my bib, supplies in a bag on my back? Where would I put those during the race? What bag? A shoe bag? My Tri bag? A camelback?Thoughts? |

I'd have to carry extra shoes, my bib, supplies in a bag on my back? Where would I put those during the race? What bag? A shoe bag? My Tri bag? A camelback?Thoughts? Are you asking it wanting to know if your muscles will still be warmed up? if so, How long will you have to wait around? I ran a couple of miles this am before meeting with my running group. The time between the 2 runs was about 30 minutes and I still felt warmed up from the 2 when we started the main run. Any longer than that and I don't think that would have been the case. As far as water goes, I guess there's no chance of there being a water source at the staging area. If not, 10 miles isn't a lot of miles, so I normally wouldn't worry about. However, I know you are having a heat wave, so if by "planned to carry only minimal water ..." You mean that there is more room in the bottle, add water. If that means the aero bottle is full, but that is a minimal amount, then can you carry a bottle on the frame? It will add some weight, but I doubt make enough of a difference to really affect your ride - at least not as much as becoming dehydrated. . I'm guessing by the other questions that the TT is a warm up for a run (?). If you don't feel comfortable leavin g them in a bag at the staging site - which I can fully understand, do you have one of those bags that sometimes get handed out with the race packages and which can be worn on your back? They're generally pretty light. I've never tried to run with one though and have a feeling that unless you pack it tightly it may drive you crazy as all the gear bounces around in the bag during the run portion of your outing. |

We have it at my gym too, and I really like that it will give you not only a new workout each time, but it will also revise the workout depending on which gym you're at and the equipment that's available at that particular location. |

Can't keep water down (yet) but sips of Canada Dry ginger ale is doing me fine. I thought the kittens might de-freak a bit as they grew, but I was wrong. Oh well. I still like the stinky noisy fleabags anyway. You are welcome. I hope you feel better soon. We Canuckians are so helpful like that! I hope you feel better soon. Even if the kittehs are freaky-looking (Peppa more than Salty.. Peppa looks like a super freak with those ears!), they're still super cute and you're making me want one, even though that would be such a bad idea in our teeny 500sq/ft studio. FYI - I think I want the pink skulls too... even my motorcycle jacket has a skull on the back of it!
Nice Back side pack. |
