Master 10208![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Northern IL | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013: CLOSED (exc/ Pop Tart bribes)Originally posted by brigby1 Originally posted by TriAya Originally posted by brigby1 Race Report. Performance was well off, but it was still a fun day. Congrats, Mr. Didn't Have It In Me But Am Forking Fast Anyway Right now my backlog of writing goes all the way back to late 2011, but I really do want to do a (pic-and-video) enhanced writeup of the time I spent with Chris Lieto ... One thing he does on crap days (racing not training) is kick it up one more gear on the bike and keep busting it as long as he can. Something usually breaks through. Sometimes not. I know you'd changed the cassette and go by power anyway, it's just something I have tucked in the back of my mind for shorter races. Thanks. And yeah, I tried things like that. Pushing harder up the hills, hoping to spark something. Spinning more in places, pushing a bigger gear, hoping something would get going as I've really been able to build up stronger as intervals go on this year. Especially with the bigger ones. Tried up to the end, but no go. Good to know that someone like Chris will do that too. It wasn't the speed so much as both power and HR. Speed is more taking that effort and putting it out effectively for the various types of resistance. Very course and daily conditions dependent. Did I mention that the winner swam just a bit faster than me, biked about the same, and ran nearly 3 minutes faster (~5:38/mi) ... and is 14 (FOURTEEN) years old? 0.0 At least he was ahead of me from the start. The other guys up there did not like getting run down. |

Got it done and that's what's important!
Random new BT question: are there such a thing as goals any more? I looked in settings and couldn't find them. |

Elite 4435![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013: CLOSED (exc/ Pop Tart bribes)Playing catch up - way too hard! BUT here's what I remember. Chris Lieto - fingers are not relaxed, arm is straight. Dear oh dear. Canada Day rack shots - AWESOME! Tracking food, MyFitnessPal is awesome. Hands Marie - ouch to your bee sting. Ben - wow - I dream of being that fast. I get beaten by 14 year olds right through to 80 year olds, walking. Pondering Fox - 5km suffering - I hear ya. Took my mental health day yesterday (Monday) my cousin and i went down to a place called Phillip Island about 2 hours away. There we saw the penguing parade. Little Fairy Penguins a colony of 32,000 about 500-2000 come ashore every night and waddle up the beach to their burrows. A truly magical experience. I got my 1.30 trainer ride in the morning but was still feeling not quite right. Today I feel GREAT! I was going to run at lunchtime but new boss and we had a lunchtime meeting....but I've reshuffled my plan it all works out. My family are safely in Greece visiting the Acropolis today. 39 degrees 102F. Then they will head off to the island of Kefalonia where we met all those years ago. The things that happen when you walk into a bar on holidays.... Checking out - speak soon! Keep on doing what you're doing!

This is our race medal for the TT Very cool! Love it when races do something different... and usable. Me too! I have a gazillion cotton t-shirts! Tech shirts I use, and regular medals go on the rack where they are rarely seen. I recently read that the thing with the t-shirts is that sponsors love love love them! I actually like them fine too. For me, the tech tees get used less because I don't wear at tech tee out for coffee or whatever and they rarely fit well enough for a workout so they become do walking shirts. Anyway, the reason so many RDs include t-shirts in because sponsors want their logos on the shirts. |

What is the etiquette if you are running and some yap yap runs out to chase you? That happened to me last week. I didn't feel like the dog was going to bite me but I didn't want to stop running either. The owner was yelling for the dog. The dog was barking and chasing me. I was in a quiet neighborhood and I figured if I got to the busy street, I'd do something to keep the dog from getting hurt but thankfully the dog stopped giving chase shortly before that. What should I have done? |

But, like you, I don't wear them " out", and I've only gotten one that's made for women...so they usually don't fit great. Their advertising is wasted on my shirts in the closet until they make their way to Goodwill. Bigger and scarier may result in a more aggressive response (fight or flight) depending on the dog, area, etc. |

What should I have done? There's a thought. I didn't feel like the dog was likely to bite me but I didn't want to find out. When I was bitten, it was by a Jack Russell Terrier so I'm well aware that it's not the size of the dog. It seemed more like a recreational bark than an aggressive bark but I was more interested in getting away from it than anything else. I knew that if we got to a busier street, I'd need to get an actual plan (keep running isn't much of a plan). |

Master 3870![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013: CLOSED (exc/ Pop Tart bribes) Our first big monsoon hit last night, 2:30 am. Woke up to lightning/ thunder and crazy wind and rain. Of course I just " knew" it would wake up the kids, so I lay there waiting... til 4. Son came in and crawled in on DHs side. I had just settled enough to try sleep again when baby girl, carrying three animals and a blanket, came in. Unlike son, she doesn't fall into a coma in our bed. Never once closed her eyes. I finally brought her downstairs at 5:15 to give DH more sleep time. Funniest part of all this is that they didn't wake up till AFTER the main storm! Gonna be a long day. |
