Since I'm not as dedicated as you Speaking of loose dogs.... What is the etiquette if you are running and some yap yap runs out to chase you? That happened to me last week. I didn't feel like the dog was going to bite me but I didn't want to stop running either. The owner was yelling for the dog. The dog was barking and chasing me. I was in a quiet neighborhood and I figured if I got to the busy street, I'd do something to keep the dog from getting hurt but thankfully the dog stopped giving chase shortly before that. What should I have done? |

Why would you spoil chips and gravy like that?I know the best place for chips and gravy in Perth I will have to take you while you are here.Originally posted by StaceyK Originally posted by switch what on earth is poutine? It looks like a plate of chips and gravy to me with something else thrown in Originally posted by Asalzwed You're killing me. Ladies, a girl can only handle so much nice rack in one day. Show a little mercy. And I've never had poutine :/ Oh yeah! In honour of our beloved Canadians in here:
Cheese curds! It's divine! I do so miss Aussie chips and gravy. I only let myself have them when I'm there. I'M COMING IN DECEMBER |

Woke up to lightning/ thunder and crazy wind and rain. Of course I just " knew" it would wake up the kids, so I lay there waiting... til 4. Son came in and crawled in on DHs side. I had just settled enough to try sleep again when baby girl, carrying three animals and a blanket, came in. Unlike son, she doesn't fall into a coma in our bed. Never once closed her eyes. I finally brought her downstairs at 5:15 to give DH more sleep time. Funniest part of all this is that they didn't wake up till AFTER the main storm! Gonna be a long day. At least you got rain, which ya'll need. I hope you get a nap in. No, not that nap, a real nap |

Master 10208![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Northern IL | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013: CLOSED (exc/ Pop Tart bribes)Originally posted by jmkizer Originally posted by 4agoodlife Originally posted by jmkizer Made a U turn and chased it back to its owner... you still get to run :P. I'd say you did what you should do if it's a first chasing offense, just making sure dog gets back to owner. Happens often, I'd be talking to owner. Speaking of loose dogs.... There's a thought. I didn't feel like the dog was likely to bite me but I didn't want to find out. When I was bitten, it was by a Jack Russell Terrier so I'm well aware that it's not the size of the dog. It seemed more like a recreational bark than an aggressive bark but I was more interested in getting away from it than anything else. I knew that if we got to a busier street, I'd need to get an actual plan (keep running isn't much of a plan). If the owner is there and trying to do something, I'll slow or stop, maybe u-turn, until they can get the dog's attention. If no one is there, I'll just keep going. I might slow if the dog seems more excited by the running. I try NOT to give the dog any sort of attention. Even looking can give them encouragement, so as best I can, it's out the corner of my eye at most unless there seems to be a threat imminent. Basically trying to convey an attitude of indifference and they tend to calm down. Generally, dogs will have some level of a safe zone around the house. Once you're out of it they'll stop barking and go back. Sometimes it can be a few houses away, so it's a little weird to get through, wondering how far they'll go. ETA: And I find that the smaller dog owners tend to have the least control and understanding of their dogs. Edited by brigby1 2013-07-02 8:55 AM |

What should I have done? Leashed dogs could also be getting lumped in too. I probably did in my response as that's where I'll see more of the smaller dogs. A lot of people do not really understand what it means to have control of their dog. Overpowering it isn't the same thing, the leash should just be a formality. |

Master 7712![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Orlando | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013: CLOSED (exc/ Pop Tart bribes)Originally posted by StaceyK We don't actually have a lot of loose dogs in my area either. They just seem to bolt away from their owners when I'm walking my dog. The only time I can remember having to deal with a loose dog while running was when 2 very friendly dogs obviously had escaped from their house and came on a 10 mile run with my group and me. We actually changed our route to kind of avoid crossing any busy roads so they would be safe. They made the whole route with us and when we got back to the starting point we went into the neighborhood looking for their owner. Luckily we found them.Originally posted by amd723 You guys seem to have a lot of loose dogs. We don't get them so much here.lotsof dogs but generally well contained. Putting aero bars on my road bike and readjusting my seat a bit got me a bit less than that. I like the comfortable statement most from you though. And your "cool bike" statement from coach in your RR is priceless. |
