Oh no, what a stinky day!

Fachmie.  That sounds terrible.  I'm sorry :/

So this is supposed to be my "catch up" time where I'm actually on the computer. Not tonight.... baby girl, after waking me at 4 am, comes downstairs crying about the storm that started as she was going to sleep tonight. So I'm sitting in the rocking chair with her, and the computer, along with an unfinished bottle of cider, is waiting for me.

Ahh, trying to do a little catch-up posting while I am awake at 4:13 am and cannot sleep, WTF?!

Stacey - you rock for sending such a wonderful care package to Yanti!

Yanti - hope you are feeling better

Salty - the beer/poutine pic is the bomb, you are too cool for school!  Good luck at the 5000 tonight.  Learn from last week and do what you can, but remember there ain't no shame in DFL with the crowd you are racing!

TJ - awesome pics!!  Ones to be proud of for sure.

Ann-Marie - sorry to hear your beautiful poochie got attacked but glad to hear he is OK.  Poor dear.

Jen - The black does seem to go with the shorts better, matching-wise.  Love little E's photobombing, she's a natural!

Erin - sorry to hear it is so hot in your part of the world, do your best to stay cool.

Darren - good luck putting your bike back together!

Foxy - congrats on a speedy race!

Kirsten and Switch - I have no HIM experience and won't venture any advice, sorry!  Kirsten - ick, skunk.  Good luck getting your pup unstunk!

I bow humbly at the flippers of anyone I may have left out.  The manatees are the best folks around!

Don't know if it made it past state/local news, but the town where I live had a close call today of almost Texas explosion intensity, but thankfully the response was quick and correct to keep the issue under control.  Something (pump?) malfunctioned when a worker was unloading a train tanker car of butane gas.  The man who was doing the unloading was badly burned and rushed to a burn center.  Thankfully the responding fire companies have a set protocol for dealing with problems at this site and had drilled for just such a disaster and the fire didn't escalate to an explosion or larger fire.  Over 150 firemen were there along with hazmat and medical responders.  They evacuated a nearby hospice and convenience store mandatorily, other evacuations were by choice.  Roads were shut down.  Thankfully no one else was seriously hurt and the responders knew exactly what they were doing.  Also thankful I live at the other end of town, as does Dad, so we were fine.  My brother lives a little closer to the incident area but was also within safe range.

I don't know if it was reporters being reporters and exaggerating to get better ratings, but they did say it had the potential to be a big a blast as what happened in Texas in the past month, and I'd be inclined to agree.  There were multiple rail car tankers of gas next to the one that was leaking and it could've been bad, very bad.

Holy crap. So glad it got contained quickly and I hope the one fellow makes out okay. That much scarier when it's so close to home.

Well this is your year Miss Yanti - Mr Macca is in I think for Busso - well he really wants to do it...so it's high time you and he met up.  I shall let him know nearer the time that you are my twin stalker manatee.

I'm hoping to do Busso HIM next year.  Supposed to be the best party race.

I am not a fan of chips nor gravy but post race I crave that dish badly - and a glass of bubbles.  Ah hydration at its best.

So here is today's upbeat and motivational thought (OK, maybe not the most motivational, but I really want to tell some folks I work with this):

"Give me enough time and bananas, and I  can train a chimp to do your job!"

I may need the day off tomorrow more than I think Undecided

Originally posted by bcraht Sorry to interrupt the usual witty banter with a training question, but...HIM race is in less than 2 weeks.  My longest run to date was yesterday, 12.5km.  Do I try to get another long run in next weekend (1 week to race day), or just do some shorter up tempo stuff?  I felt pretty good yesterday, other than being holy hell hot!

OK, so I have NO HIM experience--my first one is in three weeks, so take this for what it's worth (and hopefully people who don't have their head up their azz will also give some insight).

I like to get as close to the distance or over before a race, just so there's no niggle in my mental game.  I sleep better knowing I can do the distance no probs.  My note would be to do another long run, no tempo, keep it easy, but just get some miles.

I will be watching eagerly to see what those who know what they're talking about have to say

See how some workouts go before determining if you're feeling ok. I've felt fine just walking around or at work after lots of things, but awful once I tried to get going in a workout.

Trying to scale some things I might do into this. I'd probably do another good sized run in there and pick up the pace some later in it for a bit. Not really as long overall as you just did, but still big enough to be on the longer side. Maybe 8-10k considering the volume you've been putting in? Picking up the pace would only be for a few minutes. However, see how you're feeling from this one first. Would you be able to get in a little bit at or just over estimated race pace in another run? A couple days before or after the bigger one? Not a stressful tempo, but enough to help you get the feel for it. How different would this pacing be from your regular speed?

I love the guy that did this, is name is Tony Aldenshaw, he's an actor on a popular soap opera over here, but is a very good runner. He does a short little skit on marathon talks podcast each week, and they are funny. Makes me listen each week.
