I am really interested in these responses. As a novice runner, I was hoping to use the treadmill as a winter-weather tool. I read a suggestion that treadmill running can help educate a new runner about the feel of different paces for tempo runs. Until now, I have just been running for base fitness. I am hoping to use a run-focused training program to keep in shape in the off-season, and thought a treadmill might be the way to go. I am never quite sure how I'm running until I calculate using distance and time after I'm done. Any suggestions for how to apply this to road running if I ditch the mill?

I personally don't mind treadmills. They are convenient and don't give me any issues. Since most of my workouts are lunch workouts, I primarily run on TM in the summer. That being said, I totally prefer running outdoors. It's much more refreshing (unless the sun is pounding down.

I just ordered the DeSoto running tights and arm warmer sleeves for cold weather running... they were 40% off! They're having a heck of a sale!
