Well.. I give them good color coordination (even though I don't like the color scheme).

Except for that... personally, I never liked the Giant geometry, just can't fit on it. (long legs and short upper means problems with the Giants...)

Giants typically don't do much for me. Their Maestro mountain bikes ride exceptionally well, but just don't get me excited. It's their color schemes/graphic designs, it's just not my style. Same with their road bikes.

These designs look "ok", but nothing special in my opinion.

I bet there's a button for ludicrous speed on the top tube.

That would make me buy it. Especially if the button was plaid.

DrPete - 2009-09-06 3:00 PM Wow, that Rabobank team bike looks like a P4 and a Shiv made sweet love and had a baby.

the rear actually reminds me very much of the p3 not p4.

Ouch - tough crowd! I've never been one to discount a bike based on brand, paint, or looks alone. If any of the bikes from any of the suppliers out there really provided a shocking competitive advantage wouldn't all the pros ride them?

No, because they are sponsored.

If you look at the general trends, you will see a few similar aspects that ALL the main manufacturers are using:

1) Integrated head tube/fork design (started mainly by Look, but mass marketed by Felt with the DA bayonet design).
2) Brakes hidden (again, with Felt and their B2/DA to mass market - now everyone does it).
3) Short wheelbase with rear wheel tucked into frame (P3 first mass market design, now everyone).
4) Integrated cable routing.  Giant has taken this to the extreme with sending ALL cables through the stem and frame so you do not have any exposed cabling at all.

The two most telling things are that BOTH Specialized and Trek came out with their new design in time for the TDF this year and they are both VERY similar to the Felt DA and Giant design.  Even after Specialized had completely revamped the Transition they made the Shiv, which is much faster.  And after years of development by Trek for LA on the TTX, they completely scrapped that design to go with the new one that they rode this year.

That being said, I wonder just how much faster the bike splits at Kona are now vs. when the first Quintana Roo's were introduced in the 80s. Not that the bikes don't look cooler now...

You'll have to go to that "other" forum for the discussions on that one .......... suffice it to say there was a lot of drafting of lead vehicles going on .......

And there are a lot more people under 5 hours then there used to be.

Not too mention, going for seconds over your rivals in the Tour where average speeds are in excess of 30mph in a TT is completely different than barely getting over 25mph average over 112 miles.  Two completely different animals - and since the TT bike design is really driven by the professional cyclists (and what the UCI allows to be done), more emphasis is put on them.
