Subject: RE: Pinchot Tri???
I got the e-mail Thursday as well.  I went to Pinchot today to pick up my shirt, bike and run number, etc.  They were setting up the markers in the water.  My son was in disbelief how long the swim looks from shore.

One big positive, the road work they have done on Rt 177 (when you make a right at the light in Rossville) is a HUGE improvement over what was there all summer.  That should make riding a lot more smooth.

I'm excited but nervous.  I think I'm going to take some tylenol PM and go to bed early so I quit thinking about it.

It was good day for me. ITB was hurting real bad so I had to walk more of the run, but hey no big deal.

Magella: For what it is worth, both my mom and wife felt horrible for you, they overheard you telling someone else the story. 1 flat stinks, but 2 flats...ugh, just not your day unfortuanetly. See you next year for some revenge!

I ran into a lot of folks I used to work with.  They were there with the sponsors so it was cool to see them.  I wished I could have met some of you folks there but perhaps we would have had to coordinate a meet and greet.

Magella, I think I saw you on Rt 177 fixing a flat?  I felt bad for you.  I've often wondered why the industry doesn't offer an rubber injected tube so there is never a flat.

I finished as slowly as I figured I would but I was happy that I never had to stop for anything.  I just kept chugging along.  Next year I hope to do it again at about 20 - 25 lbs lighter and be in good enough shape to shoot for the 3hr mark.  I observed that all you lean riders passed me going up hills and I could catch up (with the help of gravity) while going down hill.  I should be much better on the bike when I'm a little lighter.

LOL

J/K on the reply but I did e-mail them to request the results.  Laughing

I wonder why they mixed the teams and the duathletes in with the triathletes???  I'm data-compulsive so I sorted through it to construct a list of just triathlon results.

Whew.. darn near last on this one folks.  haha  Not a biggie to me.  This was my first tri and it was definitely a great learning experience.  Overall, I am happy that I completed it and my times established a baseline in which to build goals for next year.  I started my training the last week of June and lost 17lbs in getting ready for the event.

Lessons learned:

1.  Swim 1: Spend more time practicing OWS.  I live in Dover so if some of you guys every want to swim at Pinchot please let me know.  I'm considering taking my son with me, renting a boat and towing him around so I don't have to practice alone.

2.  Swim 2: During OWS, practice on sighting, swimming straight and how to deal with fogging goggles.  I'm a much better swimmer than my time reflected.  I estimate that I'll be able to improve by at least 5 min for next year.

3.  Transitions.... I think I can easily shave these from 5 min to 2 min.  I didn't really care for the first race.  I just didn't want to do anything foolish.

4.  Bike : I think continuing my weight loss and time in the saddle will dramatically shave time for next year.  I was very strong and churned my way up the hills but they were very slow.  I have a trainer and I'm doing the 8 week maintenance (bike focused) right now.  I think those hills may have been pretty tough for someone with just over 2 months in the saddle.  My goal is to shave 15 min off here.

5.  Run : Another place where I feel I can shave a lot of time.  Honestly folks, I was just astounded that I could run over 6 miles without stopping.  I ran 11 min/miles and I think next year the goal will be closer to 8 min/miles.  My training was only based on being able to complete distances and zero speedwork.  I was worried about injury due to weight.  After my 8 week bike focused maintenance, I'll be doing the 8 week run focused training.  Goal time for next year is <50 min instead of my 1:11 this year.  That would shave off another 20 min.

Congratulations.  I think that you did well.  The satisfaction is in finishing.  Heck, your bike time was faster than mine.   And IMHO that bike course was among the tougher ones.   It is indeed a base for prep/training/goals for next year.

Where are the results posted?  I was scheduled to run but couldn't due to injury, but I'd still like to see the finishing times.  I didn't see them on the Pinchot race site.  Thanks!
