Subject: RE: Barefoot running? It is one way to point out the issues with your form. You will NOT run on your toes if you are running barefoot and letting your body do its own thing. The only reason you will be running on your toes barefoot is if you are forcing it. The elite level of Kenyans/East and South Africans do not all run barefoot. This is an urban legend (just like they do not all run to school each day ). The most famous East African runner to race barefoot was Bekele and the only reason he did that in the first Olympic marathon he won (Rome ) was because the shoes provided to the team were terrible. At the next Olympics he ran in shoes (and repeated his gold medal performance ). Current running shoe choices are the cause of more running issues and injuries which is why people are going back to the more minimalist approach and all these weird shoe options are coming out. BECAUSE of the over-reliance on stability and shock deadening materials it is important to go into barefoot running gradually. With all that said ........ I don't do it personally. Don't see the point as my form is pretty damn good from running thousands of miles. |
