Better pace booty in the background of the second one. Agree with Aaron.

Daremo - 2008-10-09 7:28 AM Being greedy and selfish and wanting to see some perfect side shots so I can gauge my in-race position I'd prefer the full on side shot.  I'm always looking for one of those in my race shots but have only ever gotten at most a 45 degree shot.  Which was okay, but I prefer the full on side shot.

Exactly.  I like to do a biomechanical analysis of my position.  And as someone said previously, it is all about the bike.

fendermh1027 - 2008-10-08 9:25 PM I like the second picture more. I can't tell you why.

Couldn't have anything to do w/ the rider in the background could it?

Is it just me, or does the guy in pic #2 look like he's spewing something?

Maybe that's why I like pic #1.

I like both angles. (why limit yourself to one?)

If you have control over your shutter speed and aperature on your camera, open up your aperature as much as possible to shrink the depth of field (blurs the background more, pops the foreground out). This will also allow you to increase the shutter speed for an even crisper shot.

Nice pictures!

The only problem with narrowing the depth of field is that with athletics it is hard to get a crisp shot in focus and blur the background. True I can get the action to stop better with a faster shutter speed (I usually use 1/2000), but it is harder to get the athlete and bike in crisp focus. I can get the background to blur better by slowing down the shutter speed but then it also shows movement in the legs and wheels (I would think you would want to show off those 2 grand wheels on a photo) but keeps the rider trunk and bike frame in focus. It is more of an artistic shot.

Anyway, I give away my photos and do not charge (for now at least). I love the sport and photography, so I am just having fun. Thanks for all the responses.

Eric

Nice catch. He was releiving himself of gatorade or cytomax or something.

Side shot. Shows how good (or bad) your aero position is.
