Has anyone been a support diver before?
In 2006, My business partner and I were rescue/support divers on the boats. This was the year it was VERY COLD and unfortunately, we lost a gentleman to a heart attack in the water. ( I was on the other side of the course and wasn't involved in that rescue/recovery..very sad ) We helped bring several people in who were suffering from seasickness and couldn't continue, accounted for all participants and helped breakdown the course after the swim was complete. Its a great perspective on the course and if they put you in the water, you can get underwater pictures of the participants as they start from the beach (very very cool..I didn't do this..but Ive had friends work other races where they did just that ).
Hope that gives you some insight My business partner and I work part time as Divemasters at the Living Seas at Epcot and have a rescue certification. I don't know if they require that or not...
Hope you get this volunteer slot |
