Extreme Veteran 378![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Really South | Subject: RE: How many of you actually workout while at work?I run during lunch usually 2x a week. I don't take a shower afterwards though.....yeah, gross but no one bothers me for the rest of the day. I do wash my face, take a quick bird bath in the sink and pull my hair into a ponytail. With all that said, at 5 o'clock I'm out the door and headed home for a shower. |

They'll probably be saying "I wonder what she thinks of us for being so lazy..." that adds up to longer than an 8 hour day to me : 7am - 5pm is 10 hours before you workout. |

Expert 1187![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Ontario | Subject: RE: How many of you actually workout while at work?I haven't figured out how to workout at work yet... we're lucky to get a 30 minute lunch break some days. I run with a co worker after work instead of trying to fit it into the day. To deal with the early sunsets you can always use a treadmill or put your bike on the trainer. |

Master 2202![]() ![]() ![]() Canton, Michigan | Subject: RE: How many of you actually workout while at work?I'm a firefighter that works 24 hour shifts and do a lot of training at work, not to mention I only work 10 or so days a month. It's a real benefit as I can't figure out how all you normal folks get all the training time in, you all show a lot of dedication! The worse thing I have to worry about is getting a call in the middle of a hard interval workout, or when taking a shower afterwards and having to leave. It's amazing how quick one can wash the soap off, dry, dress and be on the engine and ready to leave. Of course that's just even more training for transitions Of course I think some folks think I'm having a heart attack when I'm dripping sweat in the middle of winter when I arrive on a medical call. In the winter I leave my bike and all the stuff to go along with the trainer in the station, we have a treadmill, and limited weights. Some of the guys think I'm crazy when I do long trainer rides on the weekends or holidays, with PB & Js, water, fruit, and Sirius radio blasting. During the week when we have more things going on and training, I can still squeeze in 90 minutes of tri training before dinner. |

Extreme Veteran 492![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Cleveland, Ohio | Subject: RE: How many of you actually workout while at work?80% at least of my training is done on my lunch "hour." Ditto to the MOVE FAST advice. When I'm done I shower in like 2 minutes (just hit the hot spots!!), dress and re-do a bit of make up within about 10 minutes. The less time you spend getting ready and getting cleaned up, the more time you can train. Sure I don't look nearly as "polished" as many of the women I work with, but I'm clean and in good shape! If I didn't workout at work, I wouldn't be able to do tri's. As a single parent, I refuse to give up any more time with my kids, so lunch hour training is pretty much my only option. I do bricks/long rides EARLY on Saturday a.m., but that's about it. Good luck to you!

I try to time it so I miss the parents driving their kids to/from school -- they're more dangerous than the commuters. Working out at lunch is the norm in my office, tho, and no one cares about wet hair or smelling sweaty. I usually wash off w/ a facecloth -- don't want to take the time for a shower. You might start a new trend where you work. Go for it! |

That would be such a bonus for me, heck, I'd take a slight pay cut to work at a place like that! Say it with me now...United States Marine Corps. They'll even throw in all your work clothes, and.......wait for it.......FREE HEALTH CARE!! That's right, free health care. ***Disclaimer: The comments contained in this post do not reflect the attitude of the Marine Corps, the Department of Defense, or the United States of America.Don't forget you get to run 3 miles most days with all your friends AND they send a motivated devil doc to make sure no one dies! |

I now run twice a week at work, and on occasion drive to a local pool. Haven't tried biking yet - the idea of sporting the spandex in front of all my coworkers would be a bit tough. |

Veteran 306![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: How many of you actually workout while at work?I get an hour for lunch and am lucky enough to have a nice park close to the office. On the days I'm going to run, I usu wear a running bra and wear running shorts underneath my pants, so when I arrive at the park, I'm ready to go in the time it takes my garmin to find sattelites. I get to run for exactly 30 minutes in order to have enough time to freshen up before driving back to work. Showering is the tricky part. There's a shower at the park, but I haven't finished sweating by the time I'm out of the shower....so I'm just as sweaty when I get back to the office as if I hadn't showered. And if there's someone IN the shower, I'm stuck sponge-bathing in the handicapped stall at the office. Its not optimal, but when I think of how I used to spend my lunch hour smoking and visiting fast-food places, squeezing in a work-out during the work day REALLY makes me feel like an athlete! |

Master 2665![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Whites, New Hampshire | Subject: RE: How many of you actually workout while at work?Let's see, I've had too many jobs. One: this was before I was working out regularly, I COULD have taken my lunch break to work out; the boss did and it would have been fine. However, I did ride ten miles to work each way several times a month. Two: worked at a university. Why it took me so flippin' long to figure out I could hit the gym in the middle of the day I'll never know, but that's how motivation works, I guess. I was technically on 85% time, though worked 40+ hours a week quite happily (I loved my job), but I'd take long lunches to go work out. I never bothered to shower - by the time I did a nice long stretch, then did my 8 min abs, I was plenty cool enough and just changing into fresh clothes and some deodorant worked fine. Three: my current place. We don't get a lunch break, and they are way too hyper about micro-managing every minute. Besides, I work in the middle of the night. If I could get away with running, I would, though. Instead, I do core work in the bathroom. I'm currently up over 100 pushups a night, though the press guys must wonder why I have to go to the bathroom every hour! I keep a small set of weights by my desk, too, so I can get a few arm exercises in. So there you go: it can totally be done, and you will totally do it. Go for it! |
