The link above shows it's still open. The facility is about 45 minutes from Roswell/E Cobb, maybe less in the early morning with no traffic.

I registered on active.com late this afternoon, just before I posted.  A couple weeks ago I emailed the Race Director (his name is Dave and his email is [email protected]) and he said he expected that you could still register "right up until race day".  He was only expecting about 150 or so.  And yes, it is a run/bike/swim ending in a pool.

One other note: when I registered I did not have to provide a USAT number so this may mean that the race is not "officially sanctioned" or whatever...in case that matters to you?

Yeah, that doesn't matter to me. I am not USAT.  I need to find a sitter first and foremost. Second I need to see how I am doing this week. I just did SC HALF last weekend and had my butt handed to me. But boy I am excited about running first and then a Pool Swim! I am good in the pool . We can do flip turns right???

No, it's not USAT sanctioned.

BTW, congrats on the SC Half, hope it was fun...

As far as the order of events, I did a mock tri a few weeks ago at my local gym, to see what it would be like. I found that I was pretty warm from the Run and Bike, and then jumped in a cool pool. That was a shock to my system...

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do flip turns.

Good luck finding a babysitter!

Okay, I'm out for this one.

$65 is too expensive for this race, unless it includes a happy ending... Carrollton wasn't near that much. My friends backed out too but for other reasons. I'll go ride Silk Sheets instead.

Y'all have fun.

Wonderful.

Instead of a death climb, it's now a death climb with speed humps (Oak Hill Rd.).

No, I decided it was too expensive. I'm going up to Blankets Creek for a couple hours that morning instead.

D0000000000000000D

I live 15 miles away from the BWAC and stopped by there to scout it out...All i can say is D0000000000000000000000000000D!!!!!!

That bike route is super HILLY. What about Oak Hill, you might ask?  OMG! Oak Hill is just that, a big freaking hill, with a BUNCH (I counted 6, but maybe there's 7) speed humps. And these are not those small ones, these are HUGE humps!  No way you're going fast over them. I think Oak Hill is a little over 1 mile long...

After that, there are a BUNCH of rolling hills until you get to Anawakee Road. Oh, let me tell you about Anawakee Road. There is a hill that is loooooong and it's STEEP at the tail end. I was tired just driving it! I couldn't believe it...i kept imagining myself, on my MTB, going up those hills...i am probably going to stand and pedal more than sit, let me tell you...

The very last 2 miles of the bike route (which my car odometer read at 12.5 miles from start to finish) is one big downhill, until the last quarter mile, which then turns into a hill.

The pool has 8 lanes that we're going to use, and you swim up one lane, come back down the same lane, then cross over to the next lane.  Once you get there, you'll get out/pulled out and your time will be recorded.

I only walked an 1/8 of a mile into the trail to see what it looked like. Fairly nice trail, with some roots sticking out. One thing is that it's kind of narrow. maybe 12 feet wide? not sure. Anyways, it's going to be a slow start if you're not close to the front...

I'd take trail running shoes if you have them (but take your running shoes too, just in case).

I'm still kind of in shellshock because of the hills on that bike route...i seriously doubt ANYONE is going to average over 20mph. But, that's just me sayin'

Anyways, hope that helps.

One thing that made me laugh was the guy working behind the counter. When i asked him about the tri, he asked me right up front, "are you going to win it?". I told him i was doing it to have fun, but be competitive. He then said he would win it next year, and was serious as a heart attack...his cockiness made me laugh.

Anyways, i'm ready to "just do it"!

WOOOOT!!!!

BTW, here's a elevation graph for the route. Notice the two big hills, at Oak Hill and Anawakee.

I'm a newbie - don't really like that term, but if it helps to lower the expectations of those around me, I guess it'll work. I was a sprinter growing up, so distance isn't my strong suit.  I turned 40 this past December and promised myself that I'd do this, so here goes.  What I wish that I hadn't done, is drive that course in the car!  Holy COW!!!  It's brutal.  Prob. doesn't help that I'm riding on my husband's bike of which I'm not that familiar.  I guess that what I'm supposed to do is just hope to finish it at this point, but that's not a goal that's really in my vocabulary.  Any sage advice for the newbie on the block?

Anyone and everyone doing the race tomorrow...GOOD LUCK!

Have fun and race within your limits.

All you "newbies", don't stress. This is a good race to get your feet wet. It should be fun, fast, and there won't be an overwhelming crowd...

If you see me around, say hi. I'll be in gray DeSoto tri shorts with a white Desoto Tri Singlet. I'm also going to mark my left calf with a BT.

Good luck, and most importantly, HAVE FUN!

Hi everyone!  I am signed up for this too.  I've only done one other triathlon, so i'm a newbie!  I also grew up in Douglasville and I know that hill on Anneewakee.  When I realized that the bike course would be going UP that hill, I thought OMG!!!!  But I'm not in this to win.  I'm just starting out and really looking forward to this backward set up.  Should be fun!  Good luck everyone!!!!!

Fun race, all!

My unofficial time was 1:10:20, but waiting for the results to post...

Man, the start of Oak Hill was brutal, as were the starts of pretty much every road we turned onto...and the end of Aneewakee was quad busting, too!

Hope you all had a good time!!!

I was there this morning and looking for your, TriD00d, but could not find you.  Sorry I missed you.

I thought it was a pretty good race, for a first time event.  Thanks for posting the bike profile ahead of time - that helped me know what to expect.  That Oak Hill climb was a killer, and then there was another one toward the end that was tough.  Nice downhill finish though.

What did you guys think about the shortened swim?  Before we started I thought it was a bit disappointing but as I was climbing those hills I kept telling myself - only 8 laps in the pool...so when I got to the water I was no longer disappointed :-).

I am waiting for the results to post to see how many were in the race but it looked like about 200 or so.  Lucky for me there weren't too many in my AG - so I snuck away with a 2nd!! (45-49 - 1:15 something).  My first time on the podium of any sort.

Thanks for publicizing this race on BT - otherwise I would have been home sulking after missing out on Emerald Point.

I will do a race report later after I see the results.

Wow That was a FUN tri!  I can honestly say it for me was by far the most challenging one I have done yet.  I am not a strong runner so my legs were already tired for the bike course...What was really sad was that as I was peddling up that forever mountain in my smallest ring I realized that I was not going much faster than all the folks who were walking their bikes up that hill.  Crazy course but to me it was fun to have something so different.  I heard there was close to 250 in the race and with all the sponsorship they seemed to have I bet next year will be even bigger with timing chips etc.  I was actually suprised at how successful the turn out was.  I had two last minute friedns show up and, no suprise I think they are future tri addicts as well...  ( :  I have no idea what my time was so I hope they post the results soon...

What a great time we had!  This race was a lot of fun.  The hills on the bike course were brutal, but I never stepped off my bike.  I pedaled all the way to the top.  My legs were burning, but it was a relief knowing that the swim course was shortened.  And I really loved the trail run.  I'm originally from douglasville and my parents still live there.  so I plan on running those trails again soon.  The scenery was really nice.  I finished with a time of 1:29:10.  11 minutes better than my last tri in august.  Yippee!!

Anyway, if they make this a yearly event, which I don't know why they wouldn't, i highly recommend checking it out next year!

let me just say that those hills SUCKEDASS. i had been slacking on my hill training and it CLEARLY slowed. I will NOT make that mistake next year. It was a really fun race so I could do it again.

And I came in dead last in the run. DEAD LAST. but I passed about 15 people on the bike and 2 on the swim.

If I can get my run up to par to near 33 min...I'll be a MOP! And I need more mileage on the bike. Clearly I know what I have to work on.  Starting my half-marathon training soon!

hey latrina, don't stress too much about being last in an event

my first tri (in april) i was dead last out of the water...and was 386 out of 400ish triathletes...it just motivated me to get better.

why are you calling them hills? those were mountains. i was really hurting on them...

anyways, good luck and hope to see you guys next year!
