Looks like lots of BT'ers at the finish line.  I took 6-9 and told them I will probably help out with 9-12 too.  I also said I'd help with Bike Exit in the morning. WOOHOO! Excited!

I got my response email too but it is just asking for more info and what I want to do. I guess I just put my preferences from before again? Oh well I am going to respond and see if I can still get a good spot.

I still haven't heard anything yet, but based on this thread, it could be up to mid-October before I receive word from Volunteer directors... Or am I the only one? Laughing

I have heard from a number of different people to help at IMFL. Maybe Oliveview can get you set up with others.

We just were asked to be water people for swim in addition to finish line catchers from 9-12pm.

We had planned the trip to support our friends and have me sign up for IMFL next year. Change in plans as I'm doing IM Canada but trip is on and my husband is getting more and more excited. Ironmen are fun events and lots of folks we know are racing or going...great time!

I, too, will be passing out water from 6-8:30 on the swim (saw your name Kathy on the list)...and waiting to be confirmed about catching from 2:30-6:00 at the finish line...I think each person in charge contacts their peeps on their own...at least that was my impression...the finish line email was "loose", whereas the water station one had an excel like spread sheet with time, name, state you are from and email address...

Thats awesome I will be one crossing the line at that time!! Be great to be caught by fellow BTers!!!And thank you all who are volunteering. I did it last year at IMFL Bike lot morning and afternoon and finishline catcher and it is truly rewarding..(ps if you do the bike lot you will run your tail off if there is not many people working!)

Has anyone been a support diver before?

In 2006, My business partner and I were rescue/support divers on the boats. This was the year it was VERY COLD and unfortunately, we lost a gentleman to a heart attack in the water.( I was on the other side of the course and wasn't involved in that rescue/recovery..very sad) We helped bring several people in who were suffering from seasickness and couldn't continue, accounted for all participants and helped breakdown the course after the swim was complete. Its a great perspective on the course and if they put you in the water, you can get underwater pictures of the participants as they start from the beach (very very cool..I didn't do this..but Ive had friends work other races where they did just that).

Hope that gives you some insight My business partner and I work part time as Divemasters at the Living Seas at Epcot and have a rescue certification. I don't know if they require that or not...

Hope you get this volunteer slot

I signed up to volunteer a while back and haden't heard anything, so I emailed them.  They said I'm doing transition, but no other details.  Either way, I'll be out there all day regardless.  I got my costume last week, and I'm ready to go!

Jessica,

If you don't hear from anyone then I would love to have you in the Wome's Change Tent!   We always need lots of help for both transitions.  I checked my list and I didn't see you on it.  I don't want to steal another captain's volunteer, but if you don't hear anything...

I emailed them because I had not heard anything. A Stephen Harvard responded very quickly saying I was assigned to the "bike area" and reminded me of the friday meeting at 5pm. I guess that means I could be doing anything from bike check-in to taking bikes from athletes entering t2. Whatever it is, after participating in IMKY and seeing the transition set-up I am pumped to be out there. For the person who asked where people are staying, I made a reservation for the Days Inn PCB oceanfront. I think it is about $75/night. I could be a little off on that rate, but it definitely is not bad for a place on the water and it is pretty close to the race.

I just double checked my reservation. $55/night after taxes and fees. Made on daysinn.com. It looks to be about 2 miles from the transition area.

I wasn't a support diver although I am PADI certified, ....I did voly in /06  as a kayaker.  If you want a great perspective on the course and be right on top of the action as the pro's and AG'rs swim by, voly as a kayaker !!!

I wish I could come down and voly again.  Maybe next year.

BTW, I was directly involved with the rescue/recovery of Barney, the man who drowned.  :-
