I have about 1000 songs on the pod with a very broad range so depends on the mood and intensity of the run.

current fave is the entire Big Willie Style - Will Smith CD

sometimes prodigy and basement Jaxx burst my ears

or some old 80's stuff like Yello - Oh yeah and The Race

It depends on the mood . . . BUT

1) Anything by "Kings of Leon"

2) Anything from "Dashboard Confessional"--acoustic

3) Mika

4) "I'm Too Sexy"--Right Said Fred

5) Some of "The Rocket Summer"

Can't believe no one said Limp Biskit yet. Pretty much all of their stuff.

Van Halen Right now.

ACDC, all of it.

Kickstart my Heart, Motley Crue.

Lately when I have been on the gerbil wheel in the basement I have been watching TV. Usually can't turn it up too loud as to wake the kids upstairs (the reason I have to stay home and run on the treadmill) so I put CMT on mute. I can't run to country music but the videos in the morning can be, um...motivational.

Music while running?  What's that???

But to get pumped for a race it is some Pantera, Megadeth, Metallica or Opeth.

Geez, finally someone else who rocks Daft Punk while running.  I think "Technologic" is my absolute #1 running song of all-time.  I guarantee I can peel 15 seconds off my fastest possible mile if it is playing.

I'm amazed at the variety of music people listen to while running.  While I also have a bazillion songs on my iPod, I find that only a select few make the cut for my "Running Music" playlist.  They just have to have the right beat, pace, sound, message, whatever - but I definitely can't just listen to music that I like in general while running.  I tried to rock a Ben Folds album one time while running.  I love the album and listen to it all the time, but I found out it is NOT running music.

I mean, Bob Dylan?  Bob Marley?  Phish?  I'm sorry, this is NOT running music.  Of course it all has its place during other, uh, "recreational" activities...  but not running.  :P

All 3 Linkin Park CDs, all 3 Nickelback CDs (and an upcoming 4th), Metallica.

Lots of 80s rock on the pod too; Rolling Stones, Night Ranger, Styx, Skid Row, White Lion, Great White. Even had Iggy Pop's "Wild One" cranked on today's run.

I got board with my playlist a few weeks ago and just got into movie soundtracks... Some are decent and also helps because I visualize parts of movie to kill time.

A few good ones:
Conan the Barbarian - yes, with the ARNOLD. Not sure exact song name off-hand.

"300" soundtrack

Few good ones from Pulp Fiction too.

Forrest Gump, although nothing too fast on there.

The Matrix

A-TEAM theme song, not sure why, but helps crack a smile on long runs.

A little variety in the mix anyway...

Yeah, stealing music ideas was my whole idea in the first place!    I sit there in the iTunes store and have a hell of a time thinking of songs to download, and it takes forever to try to find good new music.

I have lots of new stuff to check out now...   but keep it coming, people!

Dont want to steal your thread but now we all have some ideas for good running songs (excellent idea by the way) can anyone reccomend some good headphones to listen to them on.

I have the little in ear ones that work brilliantly most of the time but when they get sweaty they fall out. Obviously I dont want some huge DJ specials but any good ones you have tried would be a start thanks

I'm almost embarrassed to admit it...Bad Medicine by Bon Jovi will always always make me run harder, I've got no good explanation for this, but I heard it once in the final mile of a 10 mile race and found that its just right for a 7:15 mile for me. Before some cruise line stole Lust for Life from Iggy Pop that was one of my favorites too. And Hendrix's Crosstown Traffic. If you'd like to be offended So What by Metallica will work to make you run fast and be slight red in the face if you happen to sing it out loud on a treadmill in a crowded gym.
