Veteran 134![]() ![]() Lakewood, CA | Subject: RE: Malibu Tri 09van_paulus - 2009-03-03 9:59 AM I used to do LA sprint as a tune up but now will probably do LA Olympic . i just cant wait to run twice up that #%$@*& hill on Grand . Twice... I remember looking to the right as I rode down Grand last year thinking OMFG I have to run up this hill. Maybe I can actually run up the hill this year instead of walking up the hill |

A few other friends and myself planned on signing up for the sprint, then took the plunge for the Oly. I am looking forward to visiting Cali, it will be my first time. |

(Looks like I'm going to have to DNS Disneyland HM the weekend before Malibu.) If I can't do the whole race, I'll probably be doing the swim on a Disney relay team, so I should be out there for the Sunday sprint one way or t'other...and my wife is racing it, too. |

I'd say "rolling" at the least. The section that extends the sprint course into the Oly is actually about the flattest part (other than the first/last 3 miles betw. transition and Trancas). Other than that, none of the course is what I'd call "flat". No big climbs (other than perhaps the half mile south of the entrance to Leo Carrillo SP), but lots of rollers. |

Master 2055![]() ![]() ![]() Santa Clarita | Subject: RE: Malibu Tri 09X2 Like todd says . Once past trancas (3 miles out) Lots of rollers and soft grades so you need to keep shifting to stay in your optimal gear. Biggest hill is coming back (south) from leo carillo . Good wide well paved smooth road throughout .

Subject: RE: Malibu Tri 09Not flat. No "hills" to slow youway down, but like they said it's always rolling, well, the hill coming up from the sprint turnaround (Leo) is a good size one. The only other considerable one is coming back from the Oly turnaround, at County Line (across from Neptune's net). If you are hammering I think it's a pretty difficult course all things considered. I did the bike leg of a relay last year and was REALLY glad I didn't have to run afterwards Man I wish I could get out there and ride PCH again! Edited by ChrisM 2009-08-15 11:42 AM |

I can now tell you that transition to Trancas is 3.45 miles...cuz all I rode today (due to injured hammie) was 2x that out-and-back. A lot more pleasant than my last ride on that course, though: Broke a spoke during the race last year and limped home at <14 mph on a rear wheel that felt like Jell-O fresh out of the mold. |

Expert 724![]() ![]() ![]() Simi Valley | Subject: RE: Malibu Tri 09Also posted in PCH thread- 9/1 - Last night the Cal-Trans crews were out and slurry sealed the Northbound shoulder covering the entire section they resurfaced, which includes about 1.4 miles of the tri course. (I assume they will do the Southbound section tonight) On a HUGE note - today the Cal-Trans crews tore out and relayed the asphalt section of the access road coming out of Zuma and onto Busch Drive. It used to ride like cobblestone. |

Expert 724![]() ![]() ![]() Simi Valley | Subject: RE: Malibu Tri 09They started loading in the bike racks and fencing today Again, I want to let you know that if parking is headache - I can extend to you an invitation to park in our church lot. Malibu United Methodist Church It is a block up from PCH right in the middle of Zuma at 30128 Morning View. The "official" overflow lot is at the high school which is a little further up the road from us. I would just ask that you print out the attached flier and put it in your dash board so no one has any qualms. Feel free to use this Friday & Saturday for registration and Saturday & Sunday for racing. ![]() |

We're getting to do packet pickup in the Valley with the other Entertainment Industry Challenge folks tonight, which is a nice addition MESP added this year, but we're still planning to come out to watch the pros again Saturday morning. Speaking of the pros and Saturday's Oly: "Olympic distance champions Becky Lavelle and Stuart Hayes [are] returning to defend their title along with the 2009 Nautica South Beach Triathlon winners Ben Collins and Brooke Davison. Greg Bennett, Laura Bennett, Chris Lieto, Amanda Stevens,Kate Major and Hayley Peirsol will also be racing for the $20,000 prize purse!" |

Champion 5782![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Northridge, California | Subject: RE: Malibu Tri 09I have to say I was moved (and amused) by the blog Teri Hatcher has up on her Malibu Tri/Children's Hospital fundraising page. Teri's not only competing on the Disney team this year (Desperate Housewives is a Disney production), but has started biking to the set at 0-dark-30, not just to train for the tri, but to just try to be greener. She's doing the whole tri (not just a relay, like some of the celebs) and I hope she does well. I used to work with her on "Lois & Clark" and back then she was a bit of a PITA...sounds like she's done some growing up. |
