For training I try to do 22.  If I'm feeling really really good I can sometimes push it to 24.  This is on a flat very windy course.

15 mph for training.  But there is not a flat piece of ground around here and I have to deal with traffic for half my ride.  That seems to be decent enough since I hold my own in races and have even grabed a few podium spots.

I long for a stretch of FLAT road to see how I could do.

Training 18-20.5mph (an all important 0.5 to me)

Sprint Tri's - 20-21mph course dependant.

Depends on the course - most races where I live a pretty hilly. I usually go 23-23.5 mph for sprints, 21.5-22.5 for Oly distance. I averaged 21.5 at Timberman. For training, I usually average between 17-21 mph depending on the terrain and distance.

When I'm riding regularly, training is probably 18-20.  If I'm only riding every once in a while, 17-19.  I've only done two races, I think in the 20-21.5 range.

My best bike split is 20.7 avg for 13 miles

I did a 90 mile ride in rollers Labor Day and averaged 17.5 - some drafting some pulling but mostly alone

Last Thursday, I went on a 30 mile group ride, got dropped about 20 miles in and finished with a 20.5 avg

On Saturday, I did 4 laps on a 15 mile hilly loop with grades up to 17% by myself on my roadbike and was very very happy to set a PB on that course of 16 for 62 miles.

I race on a Giant Trinity and all the rest of my rides are on an 07 OCR2 Giant

So quite a variation there depending on the ride

I try not to pay too much attention to the average speed. You can cruise along for 20 minutes at 20 mph and then hit a big hill, and your average drops.  I know average is a definition based on numbers, data set etc... but If I ride 20 mph for an hour, and take 6 minutes to climb a hill at 7 mph, i dont feel like my average is 17 mph... its 20 mph, with a hill that slows e down : 0 )

That's just how I sleep at night.  The fast downhill will usually cancel that out anyway....

Anywhere from 18 to 19.5 for 40k and under...slightly slower when they stretch out.  I live in SE Michigan though, very flat.

Lot's of numbers flying around here and I would caution you to not focus too much on average speed. Bike computers are great... but in some ways they can be a bit of a curse. Focus more on your effort and listen to your body. As you can see from all these posts, average speed varies wildly based on a ton of variables (fitness aside)... terrain, headwind/tailwind, distance, equipment, etc, etc.
Sure... average speed, when compared against your own past results over the same route, can be a simple way to gauge progress. Just use a little caution, if you get too caught up in it, it can cause you to push harder than you should when you look down and don't see the numbers you think you ought to be seeing.

I like numbers so I will put out mine just to chime in:  Fastest ever (past week) 20-20.5 in a 20-30 mile ride.  I did 19 for a fairly flat HIM, 17.1 for an IM (4000 feet of climbing) and usually end up around 17.5 on a century.  This is my 2nd year biking so still room to grow for sure.  Average of 2800 miles this year, training, trainer, drills, races, everything,  is 17.6 ish.  Still need to at 4-5 mph over the long haul.

I once averaged 45 for over a hundred feet

I like to use my averages on the same course, when I am training by myself and an incentive to keep my effort higher.  Even so, I have had bike splits that I thought were great until I saw my average, then I started making excuses like the wind, my extra gu pack was weighing me down, etc...

But I do like to keep an eye on the numbers
number of minutes in what HR Zone etc..
max grade, avg for laps, total climb/descent
wind speed and direction
how much I earned last year and how much of that was lost to taxes...... sorry, I got carried away

My training rides are usually in the 18 - 19 avg mph.  Races around 20 - 21, depending on all the various factors including hills, wind, fitness level, etc.  I have only done Sprint Tris with rides between 16 and 20 miles.   I have a carbon road bike that was professionally fitted with aerobars.
