I'm baaAAAck!!

Hey POD!!!  I missed you!! I just spent time catching up on the 33 pages of this thread #5 - you've all been up to so much!  Great training going on, beautiful photos of alaska, healthy kiddos and family members, Yant's bumpy boobies, Salty's BQ- holy cow guys!!  And guess what, I work in Chippewa Falls, WI - home of Leinies brewing!!  Summer Shandy flows like water around here!!!

Thanks so much for tracking me this weekend at IMWI! It was a super successful day for me and I PRd by 1hr45min!!  whoot whoot!!  I probably could have gotten about 15 min faster...but I'll take my 13:29:08 with a smile!!  K - now that THAT is over (IM training), I'm cutting way down for a few weeks, then starting to training for CC ski season (yay snow!) and I'll be around to join in the MANATEE fun more.  Race report is coming tonight or tomorrow - it's a good one cuz like i said, Sunday was as close to perfect for me as I think an IM can get.  I always thought IM#3 would be my last - but I don't think so ... for SURE I'm doing another ... and another probably after that!! (notice the spacing of those little dots - learned that by reading this thread!!)

you kids RULE!!!

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!  Way to nail your race and destroy your PR!

I got my forking azz handed to me at practice again last night.

My coach bumped me up 3 groups (the different groups are based on speed) and told me to hang on the best I could.

The intent of the practice was to start too fast (per a typical XC race) slow it down a bit and then finish really fast.

So it was .75 miles at a 5:50 per mile pace

1.5 miles at a 6:30 pace

and .75 miles at a 5:45 pace

I couldn't hang for that last .75 miles and got dropped. Sighhhhhh.

I know that I am being a bit hard on myself but after such a crappy performance over the weekend I am feeling a little down even though I know better.

Wow, just wow.  I couldn't get those speeds if a rabid tiger were chasing me.  Not that I need to worry about rabid tigers here, uh, how about a rabid bear? LOL  You are incredible, Salty!!

LSU has a live tiger mascot. I don't know that he(or she?) travels with the team but if it does? Who knows!

I often think of my own cats and how moody they are. One minute they are snuggled in my lap, the next? Ears back and flat and doing that weird thing where they grab you with their front paws and kick the sh*t out of you with the back legs.

Now imagine that, tiger-sized.

Racing PRs, wicked fast running, and rabid tigers.....another typical day in the pod! Smile

As for me, school,  a good ride around the lake today, and then some errands; my exciting life. STILL waiting on the results from school. I was supposed to be dropped from enrollment for non-payment as of yesterday, but was still there today....of course, I should probably check that on the website. The financial aid people said I would know by early next week whether my appeal was approved or not. Right now, I am just over worrying about it--I just want an answer, I really couldn't give less of a crap as to what it is, and I want to get on with my life. Of course the ever-so-helpful person in the office pointed out "if it doesn't happen ,you can just do the payment plan." SERIOUSLY!?!? If I could do that I wouldn't NEED financial aid. DUH!

on a totally more important note, I found out late last night that a very close friend of mind is in an induced coma in the ICU because she suddenly stopped breathing last night. The docs didn't see any obvious causes as to why, but they were able to get her heart beating and breathing on her own. They are transferring her to another hospital with a decent cardiology wing today, I can only hope she pulls through this and its nothing too scary. Please send some awesome manatee healing vibes her way!

Ugh, sorry about the school thing. That IS really frustrating. I'm glad you are over worrying about it though. After all, that helps nothing so long as you have done all you can. Easier said than done of course.

As for your friend, I am really sorry! Healing vibes from SEA and I'll be thinking of YOU.

ukweeble - 2012-09-13 11:22 PM You better not be givin no grief woman, i'm a triathlete, i am. I've done a proper Oly and everyfing

Ooooh a proper triaflete then

At least you didn't call me slapper. I'm the other mentor. The slow round dark one.

So, you done anyfink since the Oly? Been crazy busy with work, wife, tadpole?

Three week vacation has kept me away and quiet (for a change). First week back means getting back into my routine, focusing a little on work etc.

Now planning my challenges for the coming year.

Gonna be needing some words of wisdom from you all to stop me doing something stupid cos the nice people at One Step Beyond promotions have left a tempting invitation to the Outlaw Triathlon. It's just 20 miles from my house, has been voted the 'best triathlon' in the UK. Oh yes, I nearly forgot to mention, it's full iron distance.

On the plus side, it's 295 days awaySmile.

Meh, you get used to it.  Well, I have anyway.  Happens A LOT when you run as slow as I do Wink.  Nice work Salty, I bet before long you will be dropping people.

Good morning, all. I feel a little out of touch with the Pod. I'm sure I've missed some race congratulations.

I decided to treat myself to a weekly CardioABS class at our local fitness center. I had my first class last night, and I LOVED it. It was tough, but doable. (Well, except for sit ups. After 3 c-sections, I don't think those muscles are even connected anymore.) Since I train alone, having people there with me, cheering me on was really inspiring. Ashley (the leader) gave me all kinds of encouragement and even a sweaty hug after class. No one ever hugs me when I'm super sweaty. And boy, were we ever sweaty. An hour of cardio (including three minutes running up and down the bleachers) really got to me. My hair looked like I'd just stepped out of the shower.

This evening, I take my first spin class. I decided that I need to be around people more, especially fit women. I work with men all day long -- I live with men. I'm overloaded on testosterone. lol

I'll take a day off tomorrow and then the awesome trail run is Saturday. It's been raining here for the past 24 hours, so the trail should be nice a muddy. Surprised

Oh how I miss my spin classes - so sweaty and a great atmosphere - but I can't fit them in!  I love the class atmosphere.

Maybe try and fit a marathon in - between now and then....I was always daunted by the very word marathon until I did one.  Now that is the least of my worries in the IM!  Swim also scary but I think in 2.20 I can get through it.  New fear is the bike but easiest to improve I think....

I have days where I think WTF have I done and days like today where I feel on track and it's doable.

Wow what a day Thursday was - nearly got 5 smilies!

so awesome drainer ride in morning, hard day at the office indeed.  Then I get a call from my DH - now I know he's been moaning about his stomach for a few weeks but really he is a little bit of a drama queen in the medical department so I've ignored it for the most part concentrating on getting Artemis well.

Yesterday he revisited the doctor as he's fed up with every medication not working nor fixing the constant pain he says he has.  Doctor of course knows not what to do with him - gastroenterologist was already booked for Monday but doctor said go to ER - could be a stomach hernia - could be strangulated which could turn gangrenous.  Now with that kind of scaremongering diagnosis he races off to ER.  From there he calls me to say if it is as they say emrgency surgery would be performed.

In my mind i'm thinking surely he would be rolling around in agony if that was the case - his complaint has been more of the heartburn variety.....So panic panic get a neighbour to collect Artemis from school and take care of her until one of us can get home (I definitely am a triathlete coz in my head I'm thinking who will have her while I swim if he needs surgery....!)

I left work early and he was home before me, was not a strangulated hernia.  Poor love is exhausted I think from worrying more than anything.

Ultrasound scan happening today hopefully specialist on Monday - he is a stress head could easily be a peptic ulcer as he has a history of Helicobacter Pylori...google it!

I will keep you all posted!

Still went to swim squad (bad wife) see log for workout details.  Enjoyed it - think Robbie has seen the error of his ways and is now avoiding bumping into me.  Suits me fine.

She's only a couple years older than me (38), but has been overweight for many years--though she has lost over fifty pounds this year thanks to Weight Watchers. She also was diagnosed with Deep Vein Thrombosis several years ago. I just can't believe this--well technically, I can, but it just scares me for her. She has had a tough life, yet she has started a phrase among all of our friends---simply: MLR--My Life Rocks--she has a wonderful husband and they recently took in his nephew after the boy's drug-addled mom decided she didn't want him. They recently lost their dog too, yet she finds positivity--in everything! A person like this does not deserve this---and thank goodness that her husband comes home every day at lunch--as he found her not breathing!

Sorry, I just felt the need to share this. I am so worried for her and her family...Thanks all for the warm wishes and healing vibes!
