I always thought I was the worst football player ever based on my dad's comments after every game.  Well after being named to the all state team in HS and starting in college for three years, I guess I wasn't that bad.

TriJedi - 2009-09-15 11:03 AM I see it as fueling negative feelings to the brother, and really don't see anything good of coming from it. Sibling rivalry can can be an issue in families and this seems like it would only add or create a problem. There is a saying that goes something like Watch your thoughts, they become your words Watch your words, they become your actions. Watch your actions, they become your habits Watch your habits, the become your character. IF this kind of thing becomes a part of the training plan, It won't ned well. As a former basketball and football coach I know that anger can sometimes provide motivation, but it usually not the best option. I can't imagine using that tactic on my 3 or 6 year old, or any of the K-4th grade students I teach.

I don't have anything to add to the discussion that hasn't already been said.  But I did want to say that I loved this saying that you included.  In fact, I'm adding it to my sig line...

Re-read the OP again.  She wasn't just telling her son to get mad at his brother (which I still have issues with) - she was also telling him to beat a total stranger in the pool, and then smirked when he did (with an assist from the OP).

Yep, saw that, commented on it in my first post. Only reiterated the other point I was trying to make.

So you did - I did't look at your other post again, where you said as much ("That said, the rest of her tactics, as described by the OP, sound awful. I hope the lifeguard kicks her out. And I seriously hope she isn't actually fueling sibling rivalry, because whether the KID leaves it in the pool or not, the mother almost certainly does not."). I guess my ADD was acting up.

the lifeguard and the mother are friends...a few times, the life guard would yell, "Push it! Kick! Kick!" while walking alongside the kid... that was ok with me...i just thought the mother was out of line.

anyways, i thought about it and will probably say something next time...sure, not my kid, so I may be in the wrong, but I'll prob just comment "Chill out, lady." if I see it again. if she raises a stink, I am just say, "Get mad at your husband!", to see how she likes it.
