The walk after the race is SUPER short. Transition is right next to where you are parking. Well....next to where you park if you get there early and not last minute.

We were going to originally have them go after the full distance but we're toying with the idea of having them go first (after the invitationals and relay). Reason is that if we have them go last then there's no way to really know for sure if someone that is registered for the full distance is cutting the course unless we see them doing it. Sure swim cap color could enable us to tell them apart but there's always the chance they slip through. If we let them go first they'll be through that first turnaround super quick and then we know no one else should be turning around early.

Yay for short post race walks!  I've wondered if some teenagers could make good money as tri valets - they could carry our stuff to our car, rack our bike and bring everything to us.  LOL
I used to have my own tri valet (husband) but he is racing now so neither of us want to go get the car.

I am sure you'll make the decision that makes the most sense and is safest but I sold a gal at my pool on doing the long version the other day telling her you'd likely have the 300 folks go last for safety reasons - I mean if you are going to do 300 rather than 1500 you aren't too confident in your swim, been there.

She got into tri's because of me and I told her she could do the 1500, she has spent a lot of time in the water but she lacks confidence.  She is worried if she does the 1500 she'll be one of the last out of the water and will be running when it is hottest so she was going to do the 300 to avoid that.  Trying to encourage her to push herself I told her the 300 folks would likely go last.  Shows what I know.

I see your concern with cutting the course since it is 2 loops but I would think this would fall under the "older women last because they swim slow" OUL 'rule'.

I would imagine having 2 different lengths and 2 loops makes logistics interesting.

Personally, I really like having the age on the calf as I get a little extra boost if I see someone from my age group in front of me.

I dont' think it's really necessary on the arms, but more of a tradition and it helps the photographers.

But I don't see what the big deal is. If you get a white westuit, you're asking for it to look nasty after the first lake swim anyway. There's a lot more stuff in those lakes that cause worse stains than some marker!

Wave #4 Yellow! Looking forward to it. I came in 5th in my age group at Bridgeland, only 35 seconds out of 2nd place. Hoping the longer run sets me up for a podium spot this time around.

One improvement I would suggest over the Bridgeland was to have at least one more porta-potty at the swim start.

Based on the course maps you have posted, it should be a great time. I'm a little concerned about having such a long run from swim to T1 while barefoot, but I trust you'll have everything cleaned up that could cause a safety issue.

Yeah after talking with the photographers, officials, and other people involved we'll probably put the numbers on the arms (not for sure) but if we do we'll do it a bit smaller. We will put full size numbers for sure on the calves and then require that everyone where's there race number backwards while on the bike like the WTC does with Ironman events.

Houston racers that do Onurmark events are spoiled to have any porta cans at the start Laughing I don't know of one other race in Houston that does that. That said, you know we listen to what all of you say so I will see what I can do about having an additional can. Wink

The run from the lake to transition is a lot less than other triathlons in the US. This "should" just be a first year thing as they are still developing the area around the lake. As for the barefoot run back....you know we take care of all of you. We find out today if our carpet sponsor is hooking us up with the carpet we need. With carpet you shouldn't have a single issue with the run back and debris.

We're 88% full and should fill up within 2 weeks for sure. Could be much sooner. Spread the word so those that are last minute racers don't miss out.

Yes, potties by the swim are appreciated and Aaron is right, you don't usually see that.
I think the only thing I could think of is trash cans by the swim start.  The last 2 years at Bridgeland I was drinking water/taking a Gu or banana and felt bad leaving it on the ground with all the other trash.
So excited and looking forward to this race.... off to check the website.

Same here. I had to leave a plastic water bottle by the starters table.

On a side note. Do I get some sort of time bonus considering I am racing the day after my birthday? You know, something like 10 minutes off my swim, 10 minutes off my bike and another 10 minutes off my run. I really would appreciate that. Thanks. Laughing

Aaron - just to clarify...if we do the 300m swim I understand no awards, but I'm assuming we still get a chip-timed result like everyone else, correct?

No awards but you are chip timed and you will have results within your own category.

Side note: I just confirmed that we will have carpet all the way from the swim exit to transition. REALLY nice indoor outdoor soft stuff. Same as the Hyvee triathlon does. Thanks to Chris over at Flaherty's Flooring America. We're going to (over the next year or so) work on carpeting not only our swim to transitions but also our entire transition and most of the finish line chute. Enjoy!

It's a cool shirt - but the date is wrong.
It says 8.26.10 not 9.26.10.

Aaron - if you didn't catch that, you may want to call the T-Shirt company.

Fixed! Thanks for that, as OCD as I am I didn't catch that. Nice to know our participants have our back!

We're 93% with well over 800. Should fill within a week at most, maybe just days. If you haven't registered or know anyone that is waiting tell them not to it's almost full.

Thanks everyone!

gdctex - 2010-08-16 11:19 AM I am doing this race too.  It will be my first Oly distance.  I signed up for the trifecta too....supposedly we get some hardware/momento for doing all 3 of these races (Gateway, Bridgeland and this one).

The run course going through the Berry Center is unique and concerning given we are running up ramps there.....Can anyone tell me what those ramps are like?  Straight up?  Switchbacked?  Circular?  I have not been in there.

I have two high schoolers in Cy-Fair ISD so I have been to the Berry center several times.  The ramps are not bad at all but of course it depends on the path they take us on.  Does anybody know if it finishes in the Berry Center?  If so that would be SUPER cool!  Berry is an amazing venue and finishing on that field would be a bonus.

I was in the Berry Center Friday night - Go Falls - 48-0!!!  Anyway, on our way in I was paying more attention to the ramps, they are switchbacked rather than circular and if I remember correctly there were 4 floors of ramps that took us above the field where concessions and seats are.  I think I'll be running those ramps in the next few weeks if I can get access.
