Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok, it's going to be a great week for everyone, we will acccept no less... I was thinking let's can the weightloss thing and let's just design a motivational shirt for everyone in the group, I can't focus on the weight thing so much now, and I think we are all wonderful just as we are... So I will work up a couple of styles and you guys can vote on them, if you have any ideas as to what you would like on the front and the back let me know...we will stay with a one color design on both, and I would like to put our group name and members, and maybe collage of some of our races...I will try to have it ready to print in 3 weeks and then I will mail them to each of you. I will put the proofs on here so you can have a look. Don't be shy throwing out some ideas ![]() Have a great week everyone! I'm glad to be in your group. Thanks for all you support with my little health issue, it really helped me accept the things I had to. Love from Indiana, Amy Mutz Edited by amy mutz 2009-01-19 8:56 AM |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good morning all, Well, sleeping in and Pilates won out over getting up and riding. Abs and quads are not as achy as on Friday. After Friday my partner joked about me getting six-pack abs. I told her I was several cans short of a pack ;) Let's all make this a great week! |

We saw her Saturday afternoon, but she went missing from her apartment some time after Saturday night. We only heard this morning. They found her dead outside this afternoon. We don't really know what happened but she may have gone off walking towards the nearby stores. She was 88 and really wanted to see Obama sworn in as President. Nicole |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok, it's a tough day in the BT hood today... Nicole-I'm so sorry about your Mother inlaw, condolences to your partner and yourself...what tragic news. But it sounds like she was determined to do things her way for 88 years, tough lady. Isabelle - I'm sorry about your childhood friend, and yes "CANCER SUCKS!" I hope you can comfort the family by sharing some good/fun experiences you had with your friend in the past, families always love to hear those things when they lose someone, it let's them know the person is remembered and cherished, that is a comfort. My heart goes out to everyone's above families. Amy IN |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok, on the weight thing...I have to stop thinking about it except every Sunday...I'm pledging to stay off the scale except on Sundays, I have been way to involved in the number on it everyday and I think a lot of you do the same thing..............."LET'S STOP THE INSANITY!" With all the nutrition changes I have just made that is enough to worry about, and at this point I don't even feel strong enough to go run, bike or swim...but I'm giving it two weeks, I go back to the doc then, and we will see what the verdict is on the changes ie:chronic pain, stress, headaches, overall weakness etc... I can't tell a change yet and it seems to have gotten a little worse...I'm going by the old verbage "it's gets worse before it gets better" hmmm,,,,ok. ha At this point I told my husband that I won't be doing the Louisville Derby Mini Marry with him, but I will go as a cheerleader....yeah!!!! Have a good day my BT friends! Amy IN P.S. Missed ya Jules, and missed ya Cheri!!!!! |

New user ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nicole - I'm so sorry to hear about your MIL. I'll be keeping you and your partner in my thoughts. Isabelle - I'm sorry to hear about your childhood friend. Cancer DOES suck, and I've lost a few people very close to me because of it. On another note, I went to my first swim clinc last night. I have ALOT of trouble putting my face in the water. Actually, that's not true, I don't mind putting my face in the water, it's the breathing thing that I have to get used to. I HATE water in my nose, so I'm going to try nose plugs next time. I think my problem is that I breathe out too fast and don't have enough air to make it to the next stroke. I think part of it was nerves too. I also thought I'd be more sore, but the worst soreness I have is between my shoulder blades. Today is a recover day. My boys are still sick. When does it end? ~Jennifer |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jennifer, I started out swimming with nose plugs too. Once I had the hang of breathing though I had to get rid of them. I think you should do whatever makes you comfortable in the water, I just bought ear plugs and will use one on my left ear. I'm so excited to see you in this class ! Wish we had something like that here ! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() hey guys. i have trouble breathing when i swim too. i do use nose plugs (mostly because i think they're so sexy LOL) but after just 50 meters or so i'm so winded i have to stop, and no matter how long i rest, i never really seem to get my "wind" back. so i'm with ya on that. as far as tee shirts go, i think you're brilliant and wonderful for making us all tee shirts! and i can't wait to see what kind of design you come up with! i've taken two days off from any training at all, and was all ready to try for another 8 miler today but last night i got kind of a twinge in my right hip (ho hum) so SINCE my shiny new training plan calls for today either off or cross training, i'm thinking i'll just take a short little 2 mile run, and maybe hop on my bike later in the afternoon after it warms up a tad. i'm actually looking forward to that, i haven't been on my bike in a while, and i kind of miss her. i think my next major training purchase is going to be a new pair of shoes. i have over 500 miles on these, and they're shot. LOL i hate buying new shoes, but i think it's time. i think i read you're not really supposed to have more than 400 miles on a pair, and i think i'm up to around 530. LOL i think a trip to the running store is in my near future. ![]() |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi all, We're hanging in there. I swam this morning and then we went to the funeral home to work out arrangements. The simplest of arrangements is still very expensive! We got home around 11:45, just in time to watch the inauguration and swearing in. Wow, what a moment in history. It's something to be proud of. To all you swimmers: there's no way to get around the fact that swimming in difficult. Getting used to breathing while swimming just makes it even more difficult. One tip for getting used to breathing and putting your face in the water: find a place at your pool where you can stand and then practice ducking under the water and breathing out through your nose. Try to keep it easy and relaxed. Come up when you are nearly out of breath, finish your exhalation, take your next breathe in, then duck back under. Repeat. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I plan my first indoor tri in March, but I tend to be a planner and a list maker. I keep trying to think of what I'd need at an indoor tri, not to take too much but not to need something and not have it. So, to those of you who may have done one, what did you take ?...did it work out for you or do you wish you had something else with you that maybe you did not have ? After the swim, that will be a horrible 10 minute transition....... I have to get out of my swim suit (like wrestling a boa constrictor)......then put on my last resort bra (11 hook and eyes up the FRONT).... all while I am still kinda damp ?........SO NOT GONNA BE FUN ! lol So here is my list and I hope it's ok to do this. SWIM: swim suit, goggles, swim cap ear plug L ear/ Towel Bike: bra/tank top/capri pants/socks/running shoes hat 'cuase hair will look horrible ! towel while on bike/water bottle run...same as bike |

SWIM: swim suit, goggles, swim cap ear plug L ear/ Towel Bike: bra/tank top/capri pants/socks/running shoes hat 'cuase hair will look horrible ! towel while on bike/water bottle run...same as bike way to get yourself prepared...worst thing to do is to get to a race and not have something crucial....you look like you have most...there is a check list on the website...I will find it for you...very nice to have...I print it out and make sure to have each and all for all races...I now have a bag packed for each sport...one for swimming with bright pink transition towel, towel to dry off with, two pairs of goggles....you never know when one may break...a few swim caps, and my wetsuit for outdoor swims...along with glide to ease the rubbing and to help with removal...my bike bag has my helmet, shoes, socks, gu, energy drink in a water bottle on my bike, and my camelbak if it is a longer race or ride...I have a runners cap, gu open and ready to eat and my running shoes waiting for me at transition...I will sometimes throw on a tshirt if it is sunny and i am afraid of getting sunburned....or will smear sunscreen on as I am starting the run. Here is a great hint: I wear a tri suit (the single piece lycro suit that zips up the back - and makes you not so gorgeous...but sure is much better then having to change back and forth to biking and running clothes) to swim bike and run in...no changing and cuts down tremendously on transition times...hope this is helpful...you are doing so great. Thanks for all your encouragement and all the inspires. udabest! |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nicole, I am so sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Take good care of yourselves. Isabelle, I totally agree that there are no other words than 'cancer sucks'. My condolences to you and your friend's family. I guess these are always the reminders to live life to its fullest, to embrace those around you, and to not put off until tomorrow what you can do today. The fact that there is so much heart and compassion within this group (not to mention how everyone here has decided that their health is a priority), is such an inspiration and proof that we are making the most of every day. hugs to you all, Yvonne |

When does it end? ~Jennifer As a relatively new swimmer, I feel kind of odd offering advice but to add to Nicole's comments about being in the shallow end, one of the best exercises that some 17 year old/lifeguard swim instructor suggested was to essentially jump up and down in the pool (I think it was in the deep end (6 ft)) and exhale while going down and then of course inhale when your head comes back up. I felt so goofy at the time as everyone else was doing lengths but what a difference it made for my understanding of how to breathe comfortably and establish a rhthym. Ultimately, just spending more time in the pool has just made things easier and easier. I no longer dread 'pool night' and can honestly say that this swimming thing is kinda fun). Keep with it! |
