Kath2163 - 2009-10-13 10:26 AM Thanks  for the info.
Just one more question if you don't mind Smile
Are there mile markers on the run course?  Not knowing the course and with running being my weakest link, it would be nice to have a sense of how far I have to go.
Thanks again!

Yes....The Run Course has mile markers...

rdeclercq - 2009-10-13 9:56 AM Hi Kath2163,

While this is my first MiamiMan race and Velo can probably confirm, I haven't done a race that didn't have the mile markers during the run.

Are you doing International or 70.3?  Be aware that the weather has been hotter than normal lately (noting that hot is typically normal).  As you get to the run, keep hydrated as the sun will be directly overhead, making it that much hotter.  If you have access to a gym with a sauna, I might also recommend using it over the next few weeks to help acclimate to the heat intensity.

Good luck!

Rob

i 2nd on the heat....its been absolutely brutal.  i ran this morning at 8 am at my normal and it was already 85 with high % of humidity.

Hey Rob and Trix,
Thanks for the heads up.  I am doing the international distance (thank god!).
I used to live in FL so I know how it can get but of course I am no longer used to the conditions.
Again, thanks for the advice.

Hey All,
I just upgraded from the Oly to the HIM. Since I will be spending more time in the water, I was wondering how many people are planning to wear wetsuits on the swim?
I have never done a tri in a wetsuit and am not sure I need it. However, I wouldn't mind the buoyancy.

If approved, you should always opt for the wetsuit.  Its buoyancy will outweigh any time required to take it off.  I don't think we'll find out until Saturday (before the race) if it will be wetsuit legal.

Hey everyone,

The countdown clock on the Miami Man website shows less than three weeks and the temperature has finally broke!  I hope all of your training is coming along well as it will not be long now.

What is the deal on the parking?  They make a big deal over carpooling and yet I would have rode my bike from the hotel if it was such a big deal but they want the bike on Saturday.  Any secrets from the gurus?

I thought with all the heat we've had that water temps would not allow wetwuits. So right now it looks like a cold-ish front is coming through, low of 70 with 60% rain chance on race day.  My ? is I've never raced with a wetsuit and have a Henderson diving suit, not a tri suit which I obviously should not try to swim with.  To me, it sounds like a dumb idea for me to go out and buy one at this late hour, train with it one or two days only this week and then use it on race day.  Is that as dumb as it sounds or would I still be better off doing that than being one of the few without one since they'll probably be allowed. Opinions? Thanks.

I'll second that PBurn.  The weather is what it is and daylight savings will make a little difference even if the cool front sticks around.  Meanwhile, I just checked the clock on the MM website again and it says we are "7" Days from launch.  The chatter on this thread would make it seem that it is still seven weeks away.  Come on racers...start throwing down some trash talk, banter, or other positive support for you fellow participants!  Maybe you are all too busy training to post a comment but everyone will have a rest day or two to add something to the pot.

Heat out.

OK,
I bought a wetsuit on special, figuring that if I use it 2 times, it would be about the same as a rental.
I ran the Marine Corps Marathon last week, and then spent the next week teaching a class and doing limited training.
I am away again this week, with limited opportunity to train.
However, I am MOTVIATED about doing my first half-iron.
And, looking forward to putting on a wetsuit again.

The run was hot last year and suspect the same again. Hard to hve a run time start around 10am and not expect some heat and humidy unless we get cool front which doesn't seem likely. Will me nice to have temps in 70's on the bike though. It will be a great time still. I am looking forward to the race and driving myslef crazy as normal around taper time. Good luck everyone and have wetsuit ready either way. i can't see it being under 78' unless they fill lake with an iceberg, but it would be nice. I am going to train a few swims this week with it just in case.

Good luck!

I've heard that the lake is maintained, meaning that although the weather has continued to be warmer than normal, the water temp should still be cool enough for wetsuits.  I've only heard that so don't hold me to it.  But yes, keep your wetsuits fresh.

And good luck everyone!

r u guys really advocating use of a wetsuit for a lake swim in SoFL?   when all I hear is RECORD HIGHS most every week?
then, a 75F ride and run will only help you - so, don't worry.  Go out there and have a BLAST!  I'll be spectating.

Its not a question of warmth.  Its a question of speed and racing for the podium.

The wind will honestly be more of a factor on bike than water temp in swim and heat on the run IMHO. Looks to be coming strong from ENE. I believe this is what happened last year as well. Helped coming out of T1, but needed to take it easy coming back into T2.

For me it ends up being a big help. All of my swim training is OW in the ocean, so I feel like a rock in fresh water. If it turns out to be 78 I'll be happy to have that little bit of extra buoyancy.I do expect it to be windy and pretty warm. I ran a short brick @ 9:30 AM today and it already felt hot as heck. Direct sunlight kills me on the run. For those of you who've done this course before, is there any shade on the run course?

No shade unfortunately. They do have plenty of aid stations, but the run is hot regardless. Last year there was a little overcast later int he day which helped, but I can't see away around it this year. Pace accordingly I guess Running through the zoo is a bit of a distraction I guess seeing the animal exhibits, but during most of the run I could have cared less. Rest of the run is on grass, hard rocky paths and road surface. Odd layout, but they got two loops fit in.

OK, the mustard is now off the hot dog.
I live in Miami, and was feeling good about the heat, as I am somewhat used to it. But of course, because of work, I have been out of town for almost 3 weeks.
I managed to get in a decent brick on Sunday when I was back in town, and it didn't feel too bad.

I managed to get in a workout at the hotel today, and am REALLY excited about the race. And...just a bit nervous.

See you all there!!

So it looks like we will have a little bit more wind, and a little less temperature.  The chance of rain has also decreased and gone from scattered t-storms to scattered showers.  Looks like the earlier you get done on the bike will be the better, just because of wind.
