We joke in vet med that if a patient is not doing what it is supposed to with respect to a disease process, anesthetically, or whatever, that they did not read the textbook

Speaking of books, what is everyone reading?

I just finished Eat & Run by Scott Jurek and finally picked up Jack Daniel's Running Formula

In addition J and I are reading The Intellectual Devotional Modern Culture.

Other than that, my reading load has been light. I have been really busy lately. I need something fun to read.

In the middle of The Life of Pi.  Just finished up my 3rd volume, out of 5, of USAF engine maintenance training course and just about to begin my SNCO Joint Professional Military Education correspondence course.  Enthralling, I know. Undecided

*edit - Eat and Run was a good one.  I just need to work on implementation.

I also just finished Eat & Run. I have even made 2 batches of the chili from his book, with a couple modifications. I am currently reading QBQ, the Question Behind the Question; a heart rate training book, Macca's book and debating about re-reading Lord of the Rings or reading Game of Thrones. I end up reading multiple books because I will lose interest in something and change books, them go back to a previous one a few months later.

I will never, ever, ever be a vegetarian let alone vegan BUT plenty to learn from the book. Overall I thought it was a fun read ... I see him every now and again, running up Mt. Si (as he speaks of in the book.) He looks like Jesus.

Our club's track coach got to go down to Oregon and sit in on one of Galen Rupp and Mo Farah's workouts with Alberto Salazar. In case you don't know, it's these guys:

Probably the most exciting T&F race in the Olympics. Anyway, Galen is coming up this weekend to participate in the Indoor Preview and I get to go watch!!!! Also, one of the girls on our team will be pacing Mary Cain (who is an up and coming track prodigy who set American World record 1500 meters at 4 minutes 11.01 seconds)

So it should be a really exciting weekend.

That's some seriously good stuff!!

Conspirata by Robert Harris. Basically an historical novel of roman history. Per the NYT, "a portrait of ancient politics as a blood sport".

You guys are killing me with this thread!  I go to sleep, wake up and there are 4 more pages.

Fingernails hurting because of a swim... definitely leveled up as a triathlete!

Vegemite, nasty, don't do it! (sorry aussies)

Keep posting these - degree runs Arctic Manatee they are def motivational!

I am seriously looking forward to the Minnesota Wild games with our two new acquisitions Parise and Suter.

Numbers shouldn't be rounded, no 0s or 5s.

Also my butt is very sore from these trainerroad rides and I think I almost lost a finger while climbing a few days ago.  Nice day everyone!

We've just about locked up a new NBA team,  hopefully NHL will follow shortly. In the meantime, I am A. jealous B. A Cannucks (and Pens) fan

Gotta spell it right if yer gonna be a fan!  Canucks.

I am so excited about getting an NHL team here in Seattle.  Hockey is at the top of the list (with skiing) of things I miss about living in Colorado.

Go Avalanche - bury the Canucks!  Behind the Deadwings - the Casucks & Queens (LA Kings) are tied for 2nd on my most hated NHL teams.  Damn I miss Hockey.

I knew I liked you, Chad!  I enjoy following the Avalanche (they were once the parent team for my local AHL team the Hershey Bears) and of course now the Capitals but I will always GREATLY dislike the Redwings as a whole.  Oh yes, that's right, my NHL team loyalty tends to go to the parent team of the Bears.  It really is fun to watch the guys move through the system and see players you know very well from years of AHL games.  Flame away if you must.

I was drooling before you even got to the pic ...

I think in consideration of a) you getting to watch all these awesome T&F things in WA and OR, and b) my doggystyle videos, you owe me a vid of you doing the Mo move.

P.S. Oh, and because I'm fondling my warm, sweet Manatee mug and thinking of you.

That'd be plural you, too.

Geez, if not a video, at least a picture!  Jo sends us pictures!

I realize this was meant for Salty, but I thought it was the perfect opportunity to combine my tongue, melons, and the Manatee mug all into one second-worst 2am shot ever.

Also, I took this pic of Phoebe when I was looking for the Vegemite. I had a strange idea that I should somehow feel guilty about some or all of this picture, but not sure why.

Nice pic, Yanti.  But wait, vegemite comes in a squeeze tube?  I always pictured it in a jar...fascinating stuff, that vegemite!  Someday I hope to get a chance to try it.

Still working on Chrissie Wellington's A Life Without Limits, took a little break from that to read Herland by feminist writer Charlotte Perkins Gilman.  Herland is the main novel, but the book contains many of her short stories and poetry.  I prefer her short stories to the title feature, didn't like how it ended.  She's an interesting writer, addressing topics that were very unorthodox in her time such as divorce and female empowerment and indepenence.

Can't wait to dive into my Christmas gift of 11/22/1963 by Stephen King.  Yeah, I know, my tastes are all over the map.  Pretty much me in a nutshell: not quite categorizable!

Most recently I've been engrossed in the Game of Thrones series...started bk 4 this week. Before these, I read In Defense of Food, Total Immersion, and Is It You, Me, or Adult ADD?

If someone doesn't stop me, I'm going to be eating toast with Vegemite and tea with a dollop of sweetened condensed milk very soon.

My tummy is grumbling and that's what it wants. Grumbling it may be, but that would be well-enunciated grumbling.

Nothing wrong with that Yanti, maybe just leave out the condensed milk.

Firstly there's no way condensed milk will make it as far as the tea, I just eat that stuff by the spoonful.

Secondly - my reading mojo has gone.  I bought a kindle about 6 months ago, since then haven't read a thing!  haha!  I've got heaps of books waiting my attention on there and the real deal.

I think with IM training, Macca's training group, BT and regular facebook - I'm communicating with people worldwide so there's no downtime, someone's always up!  I just don't have time to read right now!

Talking of training, trainer ride and run last night listening to Macca's podcast.  Give it a go, entertaining if nothing else.Smile

I plan to listen to it, just not on a run. I have to have music or nothing, I can't run to talking. Of course, I haven't tried it in a while either.

Other than that, my reading load has been light. I have been really busy lately. I need something fun to read.

I'm part way through:

The Woman Triathlete - Christina Gandolfo

Visioneering -Andy Stanley

Success for the Second in Command- Hornsby

Lead Like Jesus - Blanchard & Hodges

The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace - Chapman and White

and for sheer boredom factor I'm about to start Governance as Leadership.

I'm part way through my Masters in Leadership and Management hence all the boring titles. I have a 10,000 word essay to write on the effects that company governance has on leadership.

My DH gets very annoyed with my piles of half read books but have the attention span of a gnat.

I read Eat & Run last year. I enjoyed it. I'm currently reading the The Economic Naturalist, it's pretty fun, The Triathlete's Training Bible, my current cliche tri book, and Thoughts From the Mount of Blessing, an exposition on a part of the gospel of Matthew.  Books by Rory Stewart are good, e.g. The Places In Between.

Back on the master's swim note, one coach said, no, all you need to do is freestyle.  I asked another one, and he said, totally.  I wasn't sure the group was a good place to learn strokes, but he said he'd spend the warmups working with me.  Have to say that's a score.

I think that is great.

I have a carnivore desire within my soul I think. It's a little frightening, actually.

Let us know how you go with Stephen King - he's lost me the last four or five books.  Used to chew his books up in a day!  Last couple didn't get past about page 20.
