I have been waiting to post in this thread since the Ultra forum was created. Now it's my turn! Cool

My first 50K is Sunday - The Cowtown in Ft. Worth. I've had some slight issues with IT Band/glute pain on almost all of my long runs, but have got them all in (save for a 10miler following a 20miler a few weekends ago) - with 24miles being my longest at one time.

Enormous thanks to InnerAthlete (Amber) for accompanying me on nearly every long run for the past 3 months. It really made the difference in my attitude and motivation. It also helped that we had the most fabulous and mild winter in the history of Kansas.

Race week is finally here. I'm ready.

Awesome! Have a great run

Just finished my first 50k race. What a rush! And mostly a lot of fun except for the last 8k where I had to dig pretty deep. Gotta do it again though.

YIKES! It's here!!!! Leaving for Vegas in the am - run is in Lovell Canyon on Saturday - temps expected to be 85-90 this year they said part of the time last year they had some snow.  Also was told the start of the race WILL be cold, then further said, jacket, long sleeve shirt, hat and glove type cold.  This is gonna be an experience.  Elevation is about 4660 feet and we climb to about 6000 and get to go out and back twice then out 3 miles and back 3 miles once.  Not sure what to take of the course without seeing it but map looks like it is it starts at an elevation of 4660 and for the first 5 miles its a steady climb up to around 5150 feet, then it drops for about 500 feet but looks to be less then a mile, the next 6 ish miles are another steady climb which takes you from 5000 feet to 5960 feet - this is the turn around at mile 11, so we now get to go downhill for 6ish miles!!! up again for less then a mile and back down to start this over for a second loop. After doing this twice we repeat the first 3 miles out and back to total 50 so on a positive note the last 3 miles look to be ALL downhill!!!!

Holy KOW, Kacie!!! Awesome job at the double.  5th overall!  I have volunteered several times at the VA double/triple, with the hope of doing it one of these days - should have been several years ago, but was never able to get the training/courage to make the leap.  Just watching wears me out

But congrats to you on your accomplishment!

And good luck to you Jenn. "enjoy" lol (I have survived a 50 miler so I can relate to that).

Zane Grey 50 in AZ for this Saturday.

11,200 ft of climbing and 9,000 ft of descending between 5,200 ft and 6,800 ft elevations. Temps 40 to 90; typical high desert.

I think I'm ready.

I've got Gnaw Bone 50 mile trail race in Indiana this weekend, my 2nd 50.  You'd think Indiana would be flat, but this is southern Indiana (toward Louisville, KY), and the RD boasts 8,155' in climbing, multiple water crossings, brush-whacking, and a general sense of ridiculousness on course.  There are no long ascents, but every time you climb 200-400 feet up, you head back down...and then back up another hill.  Should be good for some laughs.

I guess I am too. Ice Age 50 in La Grange, WI. I've ran exactly 6 miles (preparing to move cross country and to sell a house in a down market took priority) since my last 50 April 7th, so it should be an interesting experience. I'm looking forward to a "break" and a little nature time.

Yep, still in for KM100. I figure I'll be much more upset not giving it a shot than trying and failing. The training hasn't been anywhere near stellar, but I'm considering this week's Ice Age as my "peak" Laughing. My race plan for Kettle is "one foot in front of the other" coupled with "I didn't drive to Wisconsin to run a 100k!".
