I'll do at least one next year.   I'm looking at Lonestar, Pigman, and Redman among others.

I can't reccomend Lonestar enough. Just a fantastic setting, great expo, great venue. I did the Sprint last Spring. I would love to do the HIM, but I think it's too early in the year for me to prepare to do 70.3, since I'm in the Northeast.

I'm doing Bassman in October 2008, and it'll be my first HIM, unless I can convince my wife to take a trip to New Hampshire for Timberman.

I am planning on doing a 1/2 IM in 2008 and full in 2009...by the time I am 40...dun dun duuuun...I would like the 1/2 Vineman, but I may have to do the Sentinel in Santa Cruz.  This would be in addition to the SJIT olympic distance.

I am signed up for Eagleman. I've only done two tri (both sprints) in my first year, but my coach says I'll be ready. It seemed too good to pass up living in Northern VA and having such a high profile race this close by. Also hoping to become more actve on the board and hopefully meet some BTers there.

Hi m!
I'll be at Eagleman too. It will be my 5th half IM, but it was also my first half IM (in 2006). It is an awesome race...extremely well organized! I think it's a great choice for your first. I am using it this coming season as my tune-up for IMLP.

Looking forward to meeting you and all the BTers there!

Ironman Muskoka Sept 14 2008 - first half distance race, my biggest challenge will be the swim.

Have you ever been in the hills in muskoka? Holy crap, I wouldn't be too worried about the swim.

So the hills in Muskoka are pretty bad. I plan on doing that one for my second half iron. My first is going to be Liberty in Independance Minnesota. I hope that it will prepare me for a hilly half. I am still worried about racing for nearly 6 hours. I don't know what to expect from my body. Do you train full brick workouts, i.e. 90km bike followed by a 20 km run? I do most of my stuff seperate. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Gulf Coast Half Ironman on May 10, 2008 in Panama City, FL just opened for registration. This is a great event for folks interested in doing IMFL because it is virtually the same course. However, huge difference in climate. Hot as H-E-Doublehockeysticks this past May.

Hear, hear, gymgirl--Oceanside 70.3er-to-be right here. I think there might be a thread on it in the California section as well?

The way things are going, I might be jumping from sprints to a 1/2 ... c'est la vie, my training volume is good and I have a few months to get in some nice long bikes.

I die in the heat - I really have to be careful what long races I pick, because I will burn right out. I have Swedish blood, and it tells when I work out!!

Cyclingmaniac - 2007-09-04 4:02 PM Does Wildflower Long Course (May 2008) count? :p (It is a 70.3 distance!) I'm in! Also looking at doing the Big Kahuna in Sept. 2008.

I'm doing the same ones, or at least I plan to. I did Big Kahuna this year as my first HIM and am hoping to improve my time next year. Wildflower DEFINITELY counts! It's one of the hardest courses out there. Or so I hear--it'll be my first time.

I did the Lonestar Quarter Iron race in April. It was great: well run, lots of volunteers, great expo, etc. You just have to be careful on the bike leg--tons of debris, so there were a LOT of flats. jmk-brooklyn, you really had some interesting weather for your race!!

Btw, sign me up for the encouragement group! I'll start adding people to my list...
