Hope everyone's start of the weekend is going good...mine is slightly lousy training-wise, but not giving in and just kind of accepting that it's one of "those" weeks.

Water Heater guy never showed up on Friday, and I stayed home for nothing. Annoyed because I wanted to go do my medium run...could have done it at 6am and be back in time to wait. Kicking myself for not putting in a trainer ride. Couldn't do it in the evening after 5pm as I had another event to go to that took all evening.

Ken - Doggy Social was alright, Stardust had PMS. She would growl and nip at other dogs, but never attack. Unusual for her, but I think it's because she had a bit of bad experience at dog parks where so many male dogs (unneutered...she's spayed), would try to mount her or play too rough, she didn't like that, so now she's lashing out on other dogs. Kind of really disappointed because she's not very dog social.  She's perfectly fine for hikes, just not dog parks.  My friend and I won't go back again because it's more of a "singles meet" feeling/environment. Not what we were expecting.  But hey, I had one of the most delicious burger ever.

Can't go on a long ride tomorrow, but will try to put in a trainer ride and a run. Hopefully next week would be good! :-)

No workouts for me this weekend. I can't believe I said that!

We were back and forth to the city both Saturday and Sunday. Expo and packet pickup on Saturday. Today I got to watch my wife complete her first 1/2 marathon. Needless to say she's excited and I'm super proud of her. Great venue ! Rock and Roll series was really cool!

I finally got a chance to finish Finks book and am starting Fitzgeralds racing weight now. This week I start logging food again and concentrate some more on weight. I actually got down to 165 for Racine and wouldn't mind being a little thinner. Kinda going into maintenance mode now. I'm going to take a page out of Finks book at take a month I zone 1-2 workouts <6 hours per week to fully recover from the season. I see the doctor Wednesday. I have a plan for next season but it all really depends on what the dic says. If all goes well I may go down to Branson for a 70.3 in September. But my main focus will be getting ready to try and qualify for Vegas next year and maybe throw in a full IM.

Glad you had a solid run Ken.

Last week I stuggled a little getting where i needed to be, but finished pretty strong yesterday with a 50 mile bike and 30 min brick. Finks seems to embrace the brick more than I'm used to. Paced my friend in a tri on Saturday and had a lot of fun. Got my first (hopefully last) 2 min penalty for drafting, which i was totally technically doing (but at the speed we were traveling, i wasnt gaining any advantage).

This week I expect to get my power meter which has been backordered for ages, so hope to get a little more precise with the bike training.

I'm kind of bummed that we are losing our Masters pool for august due to construction, so back to my crappy little gym pool.

Kenj - Great job on your run!!!

So, I'm up 4lbs since Ironman Coeur d'Alene... and I'm just about done with this "Recovery/Sedentary" business.

I reached out to my coach for a firm starting date and plan.  Will post her response.

Congrats to Mrs. Meulen!

I am interested in your feedback on Fitzgerald s book, it is on my list of books I want to read.

The more I read books like Fink's and some of the others, the more I am considering trying a coach.

I am surprised it took so long to get your PM, I didn't realize there was a shortage!

I noticed reading his book that he uses the brick a lot, nothing wrong with that although some of them are fairly long.

Not sure about this season... trying to "financially secure" next season, which is cutting into the budget for "this season".

* Kathleen is talking me into a few Century Rides

* I'm interested in a 4 week Time Trial Series (which I may talk Kathleen into)

[Coach Update]  So... had a 2 hr planning session and <3 Heart to Heart <3 with Coach.

We both understand each other a little better as a result.  I still have quite a bit of energy for her/ with her... so we are "continuing" together for another training season.

I'm SO JAZZED right now I can't sleep... it's 1:40am... I don't even care... have to work in the morning... supposed to do a 3 mile run... (just to test the legs)...

SMACK DOWNS are about to proceed!!!

I wanted to update you guys on the test I took back in June.  I had to take a few weeks off of training to really buckle down and study and you probably heard me moan about it.

Well, it paid off.  I can't believe it, but I passed the test.

I had said that would be the end of my academic career pass or fail, but that was when I was completely expecting to fail.  This is actually a 3 part test and parts 2 & 3 have just as low of a pass rate, but I guess I've got to go for it.  Next June is booked I guess.

Just got back from the doctor. X-ray showed the clavicle was broken but has healed over. My shoulder is still out of wack and pinching things it shouldn't be pinching in there. So he wants to see me a couple times for some rehab and then is going to give me some exercises to do on my own from there. Should be able to bring it back to good soon. Only restriction he put on was to go easy on the swimming. He just wants me to scale it back and do maybe half my normal workouts. He just wants me not to push through any pain.

Training has been tough lately.  The heat and humidity have been horrible.  Tempertures have been close to 100 and the humidity pretty close to 100%.  That makes for some tuff training.  If IMTX was before IMFL, I would definately be ready for the heat.  Training for the ironman distance is definately different from anything I've done before.  I guess it's sort of like the tortoise and hare.  Learning how to pace myself has never been my strong-suit.  A fast bike does not necessarily translate into a good ironman.  I have to learn how to find that speed on the bike that will let me survive the run.  But I guess that's the trick for everyone in an ironman.

It sounds like you have some work to do but it could have been worse.  Good luck with the PT and make sure to follow Doctors orders!

Very valid points Wesley! But, you have a lot of time still before FL to improve endurance and with improved endurance comes the ability to push the pace higher with reasonable effort allowing you to run well off the bike.

Don't be afraid to do some of your bike work on the trainer, you don't need to kill your efforts in the humidiy for all of your training and since the biggest hill on the Florida course is the bridge over the intercoastal a good trainer session in the aero position is as valuable as anything you could do outside.

Good morning and TGIF!!!

My better half and I are racing together at a local sprint tri next weekend.  This weekend is just PT and some light training here and there.  I'm trying to recover from the season during this month.  When my shoulder/clavicle thing is straightened out I'll start planning out next year and building up a base.

have a good weekend everyone!

I am finally back home for an extended period of time after most of the summer out and about.

Since my training has been lacking to say the least I decided to drop the oly I had planned for next weekend.  Could probably stumble through it, but when I do my first oly I want to be prepared.

Since I am dropping the oly, decided to add on a HM later this fall - need to get the run going. And with that I have my longest run since PF later this afternoon - 40 minutes -yeah!

I have been thinking long and hard about Wild Flower - but am intimidated by the course - everyone says it is one of the hardest courses and it will be my first HIM.  Timing and location is perfect, just the course is not.  There is another smaller HIM in CA (Napa area) that same day - may do that one instead. Would love to do Wild Flower though!

[Challenging First Half Ironman]

Hark!  Did someone say something about Wild Flower! ???

Robin Gray - I do think the course will be challenging, which is why it is on my "radar"... however, if you are a strong cyclist, there is no reason to be intimidated by the bike profile.

While the Half Ironman Distance will be new to you... as long as you train and plan to be prepared for the challenge, I don't see anything wrong with taking on a challenging course as your first Half.

[Saturday Smack Down]

Well, this Saturday I had the pleasure of riding with the one and only Kathleen "Renshaw" Kellems!

She "allowed"me to hold her wheel briefly before dropping me mercilessly!

50 Miles under our belts and a newly foraged road to training together!  Looking forward to getting my legs back post-Ironman Coeur d'Alene so that I can keep up with this woman!!!
