I have a 5k scheduled for 10/12. I have missed almost a week of training days and I am not sure how to proceeed once I get home. Should I just jump back into the training schedule where it picks back up, or should I go back to where I left off and start there? I would like to set a new PR at this race. Thanks for any advice you can give. John, I mean this with love, but if you even think about doing the 5k, I will drive to Iowa and kick your butt back into bed. I can be there in 18 hours. I've done it only stopping for food and gas. |

Anything less and you're a wannabe putz. Glad you're doing well. Prayers have been answered. |

I later learned that 18months IS priority status and the wait is often 5 years. He wasn't able to get through his sepsis. When I read about your condition, I feared the worst and hoped for the best. Keep at it. I like the CTFD juice idea =) Come on folks; get on your state's DMV website, sign up to become a donor NOW! Do something constructive from this! Face it: We're a transplant surgeon's dream. Healthy, high risk lifestyle... |

I can't even give blood anymore. That sucks. Kara I don't know nuthin' 'bout nuthin', but I know I'm an organ donor even though I can't give blood. I figure the docs'll sort it out once I'm dead, and if there is even one thing they can use, all the better. Even if they can't use any, then I will have done everything I could. Heck, even using the tissues for science research is better than burnin' 'em and spreadin' 'em, which is what they'll do with whatever's left over. My friend has a tattoo of the organ donor symbol on her arm. Still trying to get a pic to post for everyone. |

No questions as to what she wants! Oh, and the cool thing is, the tat artists were psyched to do it, and each did one and kept the image so others can get it, too. They were talking it up to everyone! (organ donor.jpg) Attachments ---------------- organ donor.jpg (21KB - 25 downloads) |

Champion 5868![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Urbandale, IA | Subject: RE: Prayers needed for a fellow BT'er.Hello everyone. I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you for the wonderful response you had to my "situation". I did not imagine that there were so many people on BT that would respond the way that you did, especially since I am a pain in the butt most of the time (usually on purpose, but don't tell anyone that). I am very thankful that each of you took the time out of your busy lives to wish me and, especially my family, well. I can't explain what it means to me. That being said, let all of the concern stop, please. I am fine. I went to see the docs yesterday and they gave me a clean bill of health with no risidual effects on either organ. Though I appreciate the questions as to my health, I am somewhat embarrassed by the attention and would request that everyone treats me as if this event did not happen. Please don't take that the wrong way, but you may understand that I was treated specially for quite some time while I was ill and awaiting my transplant and my biggest desire through all of that was to be like everyone else (and to be off of my very restricted diet). That may be hard to understand, but it is me. So, I will resume training this evening. I WILL run my 5k on Sunday (the doctor gave me permission, so those of you that threatened me can still come, but no kicking, slapping or beating about the head and shoulders should be necessary. Tackling by the women would be fine with me). Thanks again for all of your support. I wish you all well in the off-season and a good race season next year. Hopefully I will improve enough to beat some of you next year. BTW - I wear a green bracelet (like the Livestrong ones) that says Donate Life. My charity has secured many of them (seriously lost count of how many we have right now). If you would like one (or ten to hand out to others) please let me know and I will get them to you. The only way we beat this thing is to change the culture and make everyone aware of the issue. It affects many of us, even otherwise healthy people. Hearts fail, livers contract disease, lungs suffer damage, and kidneys are greatly affected by the stress of high blood pressure and diabetes. Let's make this a non-issue together. |
