After spending two days rebuilding the carburetor on my snowblower, the damn thing doesn't run strong enough to throw snow! I had to shovel I think it's time for a new one. The engine simply boggs down when under a load despite a complete overhaul and tune-up.

Freezing rain today. I tried making a left into the hardware store this morning and the car just slid straight for about 200 feet. No harm except for my soiled underpants.

It's unseasonably cold here too, but I'm not going to embarrass myself trying to compare numbers.

Let's just say, I may have to wear a stocking cap in addition to my fleece pullover on tonight's run.

That's about where we're at. They were calling for -50F wind chill with -20F actual as the wind comes off the frozen sheet of ice four blocks from our condo, aka Lake Michigan. I don't think it's that cold yet.

It's unseasonably warm in my area. While I don't want the frigid arctic cold the rest of the country is getting, we do need some precipitation out here as another dry winter will make our drought conditions even worse. Some areas are even in elevated fire risk due to dry and warm conditions, something that is normally unheard of during the winter.

I don't mind it. I love having a TRUE four seasons every year.
Plus, this particular cold front is hitting nearly the entire country... unless you live in south Florida - it's pretty cold everywhere!

Plus, running in negative temps is way more badazz than running in the mid 40s.

Feels like 0 degrees in Memphis.

The wind is so cold. I'll just hop on the indoor trainer tonight.

ok I have given in to my treadmill. I have used it more this winter then I ever have.

Also picked the best time of year for my hot tub circuit board to go out. Will likely have a small skating rink instead of a hot tub.

Happy Monday everyone.

What are you doing to avoid this cold? Several people I know have had frostbite while running lately here.

I am going to yoga tonight instead.

Same way up here in Canada. It's about -20 F where I live today. toss in some wind and wowzers. I was lucky enough a nice man dropped his blade and cleared my driveway for me today. I like shoveling as a work out. But it was just too damn cold this morning.

Dreadmill and drainer for me in the winters.  My feet get cold when riding a bike in the spring and fall sometimes.  They are terrible in the winter months for running or biking.  I see others run in the winter and wish my feet and hands could take the cold.  I used to love running when it was snowing.

I really don't like running in the cold (below 40 degrees) and I really hate it being cold AND windy. Yesterday the high was 38, with a strong wind, but it was sunny. I was on the treadmill at the gym.

Since December I've done shorter runs in the 3-6 mile range on the treadmill and a 8 and 9 mile run on the treadmill.

I hope it warms up soon so I'll be doing 10-12 miles on a treadmill too!

And yes, the treadmill can be boring, but I play mental tricks with myself to make it tolerable. First I'll break the run up into segments. For example, my 9 mile run was broken up by 3, 4 and 3 miles. The first 3 miles was easy. For the 4 mile segment I played with the incline and pace. For the final 3 miles my goal was to push the pace and negative split it. I also get OFF the treadmill between segments just to get a mental break. I get off, do a quick walk through the gym, and I get back on.

If you're not going to get the hot tub up and running right away, be sure to have the pipes blown out. They will freeze and burst much like a sprinkler system that is not "winterized."

I'm hitting up spin class tonight, then a mile or two on the treadmill. I had big plans to go straight from work but forgot my sports bra AND sweats for after. Looks like I'm making a quick stop by home first.

TT question.  Anyone remember the old version of BT when in your logs/blog they had a quick summary of the weeks workouts on the left side of the page?  Any way to get that or do I just have to go to my training page?  I sort of like all the essentials on one page.

Ya I plugged an electric heater and put it inside the tub walls. I also hard wired the circulation pump so that the water is moving 24 hours a day. Praying for the best.

I dropped my gym membership this year. With the new baby. I am having a hard time committing to spin class. More so the two good spin instructors left to teach else where. The new guys suck and they dropped the classes to 40 mins. Hardly worth my drive to the gym.

My fav instructor is at a boot camp teaching now and they charge $17 per drop in spin class. But can't understand why they are having problems getting people out..

I was going to hit yoga up tonight but it is cancelled she can't get the studio above 65 degrees.

So I am going down to hit up the dreadmill or the bike trainer.
