Slidell4life - 2009-07-14 12:38 PM This settles it. I'm building a single-lane 25m pool in my back yard.

Then I can frog-kick in my yellow thong without jerks posting on the internet about me. Now I'm upset and stressed out. I need some me-time in the locker room.

Laughing  Ohhhh, that is too funny.  I am chuckling at my desk from that one.  Good stuff.

Well, as long as you're not an Asian guy wearing your prescription glasses in the "MEDIUM FAST" lane doing the breast stroke, what's the problem?  BTW - true story.  I had the guy moved to the slow lane for Lazymarathoner.

I'm so lucky that the most annoying thing at my 24 Hr is the occasional super splashy swimmer in the adjoining lane.

I did work at a therapy pool doing aquatic PT this summer, though, and that provided me with enough wierdness to last me quite a while...including such requests as "hey, could you take a look at my nipple for me?"

And could anyone explain to me the special appeal of Gold Bond powder to older ladies?

Okay...I'm just grossed out and may never go swimming again. And unfortunately, of the multiple pools my gym offers, I swim at the yuckiest, weirdest one.

  • Last year, there was a group of early morning swimmers who insisted in swimming with the lights off. That seems to no longer be the case, and I am able to comfortably do early swims again.
  • After a tornado passed through and the screens to the pool were busted, I went to get in, only to be stopped by a snake swimming along the gutter. The geezers in the aerobics class were all like, "what's your problem, lady?"
  • I had to pretend to not notice the condom on the pool deck one morning and not think about it while I swam.

Yep. It's time for a little talk with the gym manager...

Thanks.  In an inquisitive and somewhat "light-hearted" thought here - the guy wasn't Hispanic, nor African-American, nor Caucasian.  The guy was Asian.  I was being descriptive and not poking fun.  If the guy was Hispanic, then I would have said that.  Should I have used just "a guy"?  I probably would have been hit with gender inequality.

Anywho, the funny part was that the "person" was going slow in a faster lane and was wearing his prescription glasses.  The faster swimmers were a little agitated.

I feel pretty good that my biggest issue is A:  Too many people swimming laps, 3 per lane & B:  The occasion teenager thinking its fun to play in the lap lanes.

calimavs - 2009-06-19 7:17 PM This has become such a problem at my Y in the womens locker room (women using the hair dryer to dry their lady parts) that they actually have official signs up in the locker room that say "Please use the hair dryers to dry the hair on your head ONLY." Gross!
Seriously?! I've used the Y hair dryers to dry my kids hair after swim lessons... Oh, gross!!!

What's the problem here?

Hair dryer never touches lady parts, and any hair that might wander off said parts would waft away from the dryer, and likely would have been released anyway.

For me, it's more the combination of feeling the need to stand around totally naked with legs spread, AND using the common hair dryers near your hoo-ha. I mean, do people use hair dryers for this at home, too? I didn't think it was all that common, but I've never taken a poll or anything. What's wrong with a towel?

I almost feel like some of these people are DARING others to say something, just to get the satisfaction of being noticed... or to accuse them of being uptight and oppressive.

Well, this is sort of my thought.  A hair dryer NEAR one's hoo-ha is not going to be contaminated by any hoo-ha cooties.

That having been said, I would be a bit freaked out if I ever saw such a thing.  Thankfully, while dudes at my club are shameless about wandering around nekkid, I've never seen a dude drying his junk with the hair dryers.

I'm trying to figure out WHY I would NEED to put a dryer near my hoo-haa???!!!!

I mean what down there can be dried with a towel. And if someone has long enough hair down there that they need to try it... well, they need to invest in some clippers.

Some of these stories are just gross, yet I can't stop reading.

My biggest gripe is when they leave two lap lanes at the Y at 5PM every weekday so that the kids can splash around in three lanes for their group lessons. I guess I don't have it that bad, what with all the naked people, hoo-ha dryers, and stalkers you guys have encountered. :P

Yesterdays swim:

I had a kickboard, with my swim plan on top, and pennies to keep track of intervals.

On a return lap, I see pennies at the bottom of the pool, think that somebody just did a flip turn and washed them off my kickboard.

After the interval was over, I notice my kickboard is gone!?

Some lady told me that someone took the kickboard, flipping all of my stuff that was on top of it into the pool.

WOW! They are more rude at your pool than they are mine!

They at least take the ones without the pennies on it at my pool!

I just had a semi-freaky moment.

First time swimming at the university pool. Dive in head first and get a mouthful of water....to find out it is brominated. Talk about catching me off guard.

Other then that, it's a nice pool. Very active for a university pool with students, faculty and kids. They even have a big sign showing how to split and circle swim and telling you which lanes are fast/moderate/slow....and all of the people were following it!

This thread is so hilarious!

I thought it was bad when people have jumped in to share my lane without letting me know first (cause running into someone while you are doing the backstroke and think you are alone in the lane thus prompting you to scream outloud is both embarrassing and infuritating) but these stories REALLY take the cake!

I'm really glad my pool is relatively normal.
