I grew up just south of LA in Newport Beach. Got any races planned out here? You already missed the Newport Beach Tri - as did I, unfortunately. And sure, you can get fed multigrain pancakes, but you do have to do the six mile run before. That's the only way I get them. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 6 miles is a nice little distance....They do have coffee there right? Are you actually around LA? I thought about the Disney 1/2 marathon, but it is $120 and ONLY a half............geeesh. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() saling4 - 2009-07-11 2:48 PM I can not believe that I just wrote "Only a 1/2". I am in the greater LA area (north and east of downtown, Pasadena area). It seems to me that all of the little, dinky, hardly worth getting out of bed for, half marathons are around $100, plus or minus. I quit doing 5Ks because it got to be too much money to just run three miles on the public street, even if they do give you water along the way and a t-shirt I will only wear once. So, as a general rule, I limit my running races to half marathons, unless I can find a trail race to do. The Disney half marathon hadn't really come under my radar before, but I just went and looked at it. My two triathlons are October 4 and 10 (not great planning, but I didn't schedule them for those dates) and I could and probably should do a half marathon about then, early September. The half is 98% sold out and the 5K is completely sold out. Just a heads-up. My problem is that I have to check a few things before can commit to a weekend in September, but if the timing is right and there are still slots, I will probably do it, albeit slowly. And yeah, we got coffee in California. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It is hard to figure what to spend money on. Disney should be fun, but $10 a mile..WOWSA. Now the Rock n Roll Las Vegas Mary (which I am doing) is $95-$105 for a full mary. |

Not just the health issues, which seem bad enough, but the implications (not being able to wear your beautiful 2-piece Orca tri suit this season) and all of the uncertainty. BUT, you have great medical care and what might have been a bigger problem in an earlier century, is likely to be more manageable now. And there is always next season and the beautiful tri suit will be there waiting for you and we all be here cheering you on. You will get through this. I haven't read your posts since I've been on BT without believing that. Thanks a mill Leah! I had a really bad day yesterday, especially when they told me I'm not allowed any exercise for a month (just getting ready for some hard core negotiations) and a month after I get out of here we were supposed to go on holidays (somewhere nice and warm) and I was planning on buying my first bikini ever (not like girly bikini but Speedo bikinig-still major change for me). Now this is all up in the air for me. Friends are trying to cheer me up and say that I'll "just have to go on a diet"- they obviously don't have a clue what they're on about ![]() I was also thinking about my new tri suit and since it's supposed to be drying fast I could use it for washing my shower or simply put some water into my bath and test it that way ![]() http://www.orca.com/product/226-tri-pant-female(pants) http://www.orca.com/product/226-tri-support-singlet-female/226-tri-... Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jo - It is a beautiful tri suit. And I do understand wanting to wear it. I have a one-piece tri suit that I was able to fit into a number of years ago and I want, I mean really WANT, to wear it this year. I am pretty sure that I will be able to, but not 100% sure, so I know the feeling of having something you want to wear and are looking forward to wearing, but don't know if you can or ever will. Don't wear your new suit for cleaning the shower. Hey, it is almost sacred, a work of art. Keep it dangling in front of you so you know your reward when you are finally able to do your next tri. And I am supremely confident that you will be able to, even if it isn't this season. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am happy to report, nay boast, that I did my six-mile run and had multigrain pancakes this morning. And I feel very sorry for anyone who put out a big effort and all they got out of it was a protein shake. Actually, it was multigrain pancakes and what the restaurant calls their California omelet. The California omelet is mostly chicken sausage, spinach, cheese, and other stuff, with avocado on top. It is quite tasty and I have this belief, possibly irrational, that the entire breakfast is in The Zone. I heartily recommend this breakfast if you are in the Pasadena, California, area. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jo, I looked at your suit on the website, ooh it's lush, never seen one like that before as they're not available in Australia, but I may have to get a friend to send me one over as it really is gorgeous. You will use it in anger, I'm sure, once this is all sorted and you get back into training. I do sympathise, having had my share of injuries, it's heart-breaking after all the work to have to step back from it. You're young, you're fit, you will heal and we need photos of you in that suit. |

It also looks quite good on me ![]() From other news: still in hospital (over a week now) and slowly losing my mind here. No, not slowly, rapidly losing my mind! I'm just after realsing that so far I've spent more time here than in my new house- unreal! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() awfully quiet here today.... where is everybody?? Out training?? A little good news for me personally - I have been experiencing some breathing difficulty when I do higher intensity workouts. I finally saw a sports med doc about whether or not I might have exercise induced asthma. He said it sounded like I might, and suggested a trial run with an inhaler to see if there was any improvement in my breathing with using it. Tried it on my morning bike ride, and WOW! It made a HUGE difference! I was able to climb hills that normally leave me feeling like my lungs are about to explode so much easier! Still breathing hard, but feeling like the breathing was actually moving some oxygen into my lungs! This should let me do a better job at incorporating interval training into my workouts, which I hope will also help with some improved fat-burning! YAY! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Weigh-in this week was mixed. I have remained unchanged from last week at 280lbs. A definate plateau! I guess it's better than a gain but I am gettign a little frustrated. Anyway, my enthusiasm has been renewed as I have just been accepted into the Noosa Triathlon (my 'A' race) after I was placed on the wait-list for a few weeks. So I expect a good result next week. |

Member![]() ![]() | ![]() start = 281.6 Week 1 = 277.4 week 2 = 275.4 Total loss = 6.2lb Weight has been fluctuating too much over the last 3 weeks and hasnt given me a steady regular weight loss. I know it doesnt seem much for you guys and gals but I nearly doubled my weekly mileage on the bike from 60 to 110 last week. Thought that would have done me a lot of good but I wasnt watching my diet which my records show was my failure. Too little protein & too much carbs and fats despite the reasonable cal intake. And too little fruit and veg. Need to get back to a healthier balance. So very surprised I've actually lost anything this week. Anyway... Good luck all. |
