How to : Custom cut your Disc Wheel COver (Page 2)

If I remember right it was a 3/16" drillbit.

The screws are plastic, so no locktite, but I think I may use some teflon tape.

There is about 3/4cm of overlap the way I cut it.

For standard box rim, Excel Sports sells CH Aero cover for $60.  No trimming necessary, for those of us that are not as handy -

What does, "standard box rim" mean?

Is there a cut out to air up the tire? Or did you cut a hole? I hope you dont have to remove the cover to put air in, that would suck to get a flat on the road (during a race)....

Standard box rim - Thats a non-aero...standard issue (usually 32 spoke) rim. "Box" refers to the shape of the rim, which is usually a rectangular shape, as opposed to an "aero" shape.

There is a cutout in the plastic to allow you to air up the tire.

I know its probably been said before, but just to clarify if you talk to Rich at wheel builder he'll cut the cover for a small fee. If you have a common wheel he probably already has your dimensions, otherwise the website will show you what you need. If you are nervous about botching the job, then you can get it sent to you perfectly cut for an extra $25. It's a great product I have one on my easton's right now.

I have a few spare wheels in the garage, including a tubie with DA hubs. I have been thinking about doing this. What are your thoughts about using an older heavy 32 or so spoke wheel for a disc cover wheel?

I have Real Design SS 40's that I do not want to cover.

THe cover is heavy, but as I have said before... on a flat course, the cover does its job very well. On a hilly course, leave the cover at home.

That said, a LOT of people mount the covers on Mavic Open Pro, 32 spoke wheels. SO no problem on mounting it to your 32 spoke wheel.

Personally, I think, you might as well mount it to the lightest pair of wheels you have.

I got my wheelbuilder covers today!! I followed your directions and used the very helpful pictures and attached the covers rather easily. All I have to say to ranger5oh is thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I'll upload pictures when I get a chance.

FYI: I had to use a 7/32 drill bit to cut the holes for the fasteners. Mine might just be a little bigger.
