Pre-race routine:

Woke up at about 8:00. Had breakfast and a cup of coffee. Got dressed and packed up for the run. Drove over to State Fair Park and did some driving around the site to see parts of the course (looked a bit wet and slushy). Went in an checked in for the race and got my chip. Back out to the car to drop off extra things. Then headed back inside to hang out with the BT people who were there.
Event warmup:

Ran down a few blocks and back. Noticed my lungs were tight, so I took a puff from my inhaler before starting.
Run
  • 37m 15s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

As usual, I started off way too fast. I was having a hard time breathing and the cold air wasn't helping. Made it through the first mile, but I was really struggling and my diaphragm was starting to cramp up. Walked a little during the second mile. Saw djdavey coming in to finish as I was going into the third mile. Tried to make it through running the rest of the race after I passed the sign for mile marker two. I actually started feeling a bit better. Djdavey came in to pace me towards the end, which I appreciated SO much. I was having a hard time and it was nice to have someone there with me. Got passed at the end by the two people I'd managed to stay ahead of the last mile (Grrr....). I finished and headed inside to take my inhaler and get some food.
What would you do differently?:

Train more. Keep asthma under control.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, had some water. Coughed up a bunch of phlegm. Went back to get a beer, banana, cookie, and a diet pepsi. Had to cover all of my food groups. ;)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Train more. Keep asthma under control.

Event comments:

Fun race and a good way to start off the new year.
