Member 14 Vinings - Atlanta, GA | Subject: RE: Florida 70.3 I Finished! I was shooting for under 6hrs 30min and I came in at 6hrs 58 min. Not bad for my first HIM. I had to walk portions of the run since my hip started to bother me a little. What an awesome experience to reach the finish line of a HIM. Pictures and details are on my blog below! Go BT! |

Veteran 265 Grayson, Ga. | Subject: RE: Florida 70.3 Finished!!! Good swim, 41:xx Good bike, rain and all. 3:10 Awful run, I thought we were in Africa. 3:30-40. I've had a sinus infection and a bad chest cold for the last 2+ weeks, and lower leg issues and I just slacked off on the run and I knew I was going to have to walk mostly because of my lack of training. But I have to tell you, this just rocked, and I had a blast. The run was the worst and they really need to change the run course. Congrats to all! -Brian |

Nice Pictures on the Blog! I too fell short of my goal of 6:45, finishing at 6:52. But being my first HIM, losing 25 lbs since Christmas, and running with a bum knee for the last lap (where in the H#ll that came from I have no clue!), I'm walking on air today. My wife and kids think I'm a hero...it feels awesome! Congrats on the finish! |

Veteran 123 Jacksonville, FL | Subject: RE: Florida 70.3 Lucy - Is that a picture of the little alligator from the run course (early in the loop)? I saw it, then I had to use some of my run energy to yell at some volunteer kid who was throwing rocks at it. (Yeah, that's what made me have a bad run ) Hope everyone is recovering from a hot long day! |

Extreme Veteran 488 ATLANTA | Subject: RE: Florida 70.3 What a great day, even though I felt like I was running in a sauna that is located in a broiler in an un-air conditioned kitchen located on the equator. I had a good race, not a great one, but a good one. I had given myself a goal and an out of the park goal. I tried to be somewhat realistic as this was my first HIM and I only started triathlons (and running for that matter) a year ago. The sun killed the out of the park goal, but I did beat my overall goal of 5:30 by finishing at just under 5:24. I left my garmin on my bike (didn't realize until out of transition) and this hurt me as I use it for a pacing tool. Swim: 7 minutes under back of head goal Bike: 5 minutes over back of head goal Run: 20 minutes over back of head goal. Transitions: double expected time (that was a long way from the water) After a long soak in the lake, I ate 6 slices of pizza and biked back to the Lodge, stopping to encourage anyone I saw on the course. I then settled down for a long winters drink by the pool. |

Veteran 146 New Jersey (outside philly) | Subject: RE: Florida 70.3 Ugh, what a day. I had a terrible run(or should I call it walk). After the storms on the bike, my socks and running shoes were soaked. By mile 2 of the run I had several blisters on both feet. Ended up walking 11 of the 13 miles. But I finished, which is all I was shooting for. A couple good things though. First I completed the swim in under an hour. I had never raced without a wetsuit, and never longer than an oly distance. Was happy about that. Also I finished the bike right around 2:40. That's my strongest disipline, was happy with that. So figure I finished swim/T1/bike/T2 just under 4hrs. Then a 3:50 HM. Was nowhere near prepared for the heat/rain on the run. As bad as the run(walk) went, still had a blast. I now plan to take another shot at a HIM in sept. Then eyeing Florida ironman in Nov 09. Expert 1143 Wellington, Florida | Subject: RE: Florida 70.3 Im in for more 70.3's....eyeing Austin and Vineman. Maybe next year. This summer is filled already for Sprints and Oly and 10K's. I won't return to FLA 70.3 again until they change the run course. Had a blast, enjoyed the race, but that run course is ridiculous. Not the HEAT, the course. If I wanted to do a "trail" run, Id do a Xtera race. I heard Ironman is moving out of Disney after this year anyway. Not suprised with all the B.S. and red tape they get from Disney. Im hearing south on the east coast, maybe Sebastian? FM http://www.myspace.com/fredtriguy65 |

Nashville | Subject: RE: Florida 70.3 Congrats to all the finishers. I was sidelined due to a really bad bike accident 6 weeks ago and couldn't get money back. I had to watch instead of participate. I may be able to bounce back and try the Austin 70.3, but I am not sure since I have 2 rotator cuff tears and had surgery 4 weeks ago. By the way, the friend who was in the bike accident with me finished in 5 hr 35 min - amazing!! I think the Austin 70.3 may have some of the run offroad too. I thought I saw that when I was looking into it on the 11 hour ride back to Nashville. |

FM http://www.myspace.com/fredtriguy65 I am definitely not wedded to the Disney thing (I do like the lake vs. ocean swim), so I hope they do move it. I didn't mind the idea of a trail per se, but theirs was very narrow where it was mowed and the unmowed areas had hidden potholes. Given the narrow passageway, it made passing a group of people/walkers a challenge. I plan to do another spring 70.3 next year and will look to get an IM Arizona slot at the 70.3 event. BTW, are you doing Richard Russell in 2 weeks? |

My coach warned me before hand about the dangers of the "cloud cover" and how it will bonk if you aren't ready for the surprise sunshine. I stuck to my hydration plan but it was still flippin' hot. I budgeted 4 Gus and a drink at every station. I ended up hitting the gu one last time which gave me the kick to come in the shoot running like a scalded rabbit. |

Regular 83 Chesterfield, MO | Subject: RE: Florida 70.3 What an amazing day! First HIM and I could not be more happy. I kept telling myself that you can't train for 6 months and then not enjoy the race. Swim time was 44:00, bike 2:50 and then, like most, had a tough run 2:48. It was hot on the run but everyone had to endure that course. Looking at Ironman Wisconsin or Arizona in 2009. Once you get a little dirty you can't stop!! Congrats to all those who battled to the finish. |
