Run
Comments: I went out a bit too fast in the first two miles. A lot of time midrace, I was in a gap without anyone to run with. I might have lost some concentration around miles 5-8 and slowed down. Had serious quad tightening and cramping after the run across the grass around mile 9. By the finish I was just one hard push away from the quads totally seizing up. What would you do differently?: Start just a little slower. Train more for hilly and trail terrain. Drink more at aid stations early in race. I need to be more mentally tough at the end of the race. Post race
Warm down: Post race cramping in quads and feet. What limited your ability to perform faster: Leg strength. Tightening in quads. Event comments: There were many volunteers, and the course was well marked. The race director is a really nice guy and puts on a quality event. The aid stations are at irregular intervals, which is pretty normal for a trail race. There were lots of raffle prizes and post-race refreshments. It is a small event (limited to 250 for the half/half relay) with a very friendly atmosphere. The finisher medals were glass and very nice. Overall and age group awards are roots, which is unique.
