Extreme Veteran 380 Frome, (Nr Bath) Somerset | Subject: RE: What is your opinion on LASIK? I had it done about 4 years ago, it was a great result and I am so pleased I got it done. I do have dry eyes occasionally and I wear glasses in front of the computer because I have astigmatism but nothing serious. Before I had it done I had terrible eye site, nothing can beat being able to see when swimming. |

Master 1565 SMIBville | Subject: RE: What is your opinion on LASIK? I had PRK 2 years ago this week (bad candidate for LASIK due to thin corneas). Vision is great. Recovery from PRK typically requires a lot more time, discomfort, and medication than LASIK, but the results are similar and I'm completely satisfied. |

Your astigmatism can NOT be corrected by the same means. I would recommend a second opinion. I wanted to have it done a few years ago but my the eye-center "didn't have the technology available yet" to correct my vision issues. I have not looked back into it, although people keep telling me I should do it. my eyes are pretty much shot, something like 20/200 un-corrected. plus bifocals since I was 19. Since astigmatism cannot be corrected by Lasik or cataract, could you share knowledge of a procedure that would? Edited by G-Moose 2008-01-08 7:23 PM |

Houston, TX | Subject: RE: What is your opinion on LASIK? had mine done about 5 years ago, about the time they started offering the completely computer controlled laser stuff but they were still using that eye guillotine to slice the cornea. didn't like that device one bit the first go round and then had to look forward to the second eye. thats the ONLY part i regret from the whole procedure. my vision is still better than 20/20 and i never miss the feeling of misery from sleeping in my contacts or groping on the bedside table to find my glasses so i could see as i woke up everyday. the surgery is a life changer. i could see immediately and the only complication i had was i healed a little slower than normal. no issues of dryness, no halos, none of the things i worried about before surgery. the freedom from corrective lenses is so wonderful that if something changed and i had to redo it again tomorrow and pay all over, i wouldn't hesitate a bit. "laze me up doc!" |

Veteran 150 Citrus Heights, CA (Sacramento) | Subject: RE: What is your opinion on LASIK? Had it done approximately 4 years ago. I was extremely apprehensive with having my eyes cut into, but went through it anyways. The surgery itself was simple, quick, and painless. Today I have 20/20 eyesight and can see perfectly on clear, bright days outdoors (which was my primary reason for going through it). However, I need to wear prescription glasses at night (and dark places like a movie theater) and on overcast days. My optometrist told me that my results are experienced by numerous people that had LASIK. I do wish I had better results, but would I do it again? Definitely. Extreme Veteran 484 McHenry, IL | Subject: RE: What is your opinion on LASIK? Had it done a few years ago. I selected that my results were great in your poll, although I did have one minor complication which left me with a bit less than 20/20 in my right eye...but still good enough that I don't need glasses. I'd say my vision is at least as good as it was with contacts, which wasn't exactly always crystal clear anyway. My complication was some sort of cell growth under the flap in my right eye a couple of days after the procedure. I had to go back in, the doctor peeled back the flap again and cleaned out the cell growth manually. Then he sutured the flap down for better protection. Went back a few days later to have the sutures removed and I was good to go. When all that was said and done, my right eye ended up not quite as sharp as my left, but still pretty good. I don't know if the cell growth and resulting procedure had anything to do with my right eye being a little less clear than my left, but I suspect it had an impact. If I had it to do again, I'd do it again. No question. I can't imagine going back to dealing with contacts and glasses. Sounds like such a royal pain in the shorts now. Go to a place with an outstanding reputation. |

Pro 4189 Pittsburgh, my heart is in Glasgow | Subject: RE: What is your opinion on LASIK? My sis-in-law's sister just had it done in order to pursue her dream job of working for the FBI, and she said she was shocked at how well she could see IMMEDIATELY after. I really wish that my fiancee would consider it, because his contacts are starting to annoy him greatly and he's blind without them. |

Master 3019 West Jordan, UT | Subject: RE: What is your opinion on LASIK? I had it done 4 years ago. I don't need glasses, but my vision is not as good as it was with glasses. Lasik also gave me severe dry eye problems which is a potential complilcations. I have to use eye drops all the time. Sometime the dryness irritates my eyes enough that my vision suffers noticeably. I also occasionally have problems with night vision occasionally. I would say I have mixed feelings. I don't need glasses, which was the goal, but I am not 100% happy with the outcome. I also went to the "best" and most expensive surgeon in the state, so I guess I wasted some cash too. My wife's went better, she has 20/15 vision but still occasional dry eye problems. Not as bad as mine though.

So if you could've looked into the future and seen what the outcome was going to be, would you still have chosen to do it?

Pro 3932 Irvine, California | Subject: RE: What is your opinion on LASIK? Okay, I'm seriously thinking now that I'll get the procedure done. However, I'm worried about how it will impact my training. For those of you who had it done, how long did it take to recover, and were you told not to engage in any sports for some amount of time? If so, how long? I'd guess swimming would be the biggest concern? My first tri is in May, so probably I should do it ASAP or wait until after that race... Hmmmm. |

1 | Subject: RE: What is your opinion on LASIK? I actually had it a couple months ago and the result to me was amazing. I don’t need to wear glasses anymore, I had an eye surgery in my2020.In most cases, people who have had LASIK can return to work and resume normal activities the very next day following their surgery. However, be sure to consult your doctor before engaging in swimming or any other physical activities that could disrupt the healing process. The healing process was fast because they used an advanced technology and state of the art facilities. Try to check my2020 for some information about Lasik. |

Spend the 4K or more and go with the top guy in your city/area. I had to opt for PRK since my cornea was not thick enough. Healing time was about a week and my vision was pretty blurry during that time. I do have some dry eye issues, but just put in drops before bed and when I wake up and I'm ok. Wife had LASIK and has had no problems either. It was nice to toss all the scrip stuff( goggles, shades and glasses) |

I tend to rub my eyes a lot, both from fatigue and allergies... is there a danger you could break open the flap? My doc gave me cage-like "goggles" to cover my eyes to sleep for a week, to prevent eye-rubbing. I unintentionally rub my eyes A LOT, especially during allergy season. Make a mental note of not touching your eyes, just for a week. You can hold it... |
