I can't seem to find anyone that knows how long the LA Fitness Pool is. The staff doesn't seem to know either. I get a different answer everytime.

25 meters or 25 yards?

Is there a way to tell?

thanks,

DK

Which location?

The ones at 24 hour fitness are 25 yards, fwiw. I think Lifetime Fitness is 25 m, but I'm not sure about that.

2x the tape measure method... That's what I've done.

I just recently figured out that LA fitness means L. A.  not La.   I thought it was a French health club.

The staff at mine (George Bush between Coit & Independence) says 25 meters.

I've learned not to trust the staff at most gyms, most of them don't even realize they have a pool.

After you bring the tape measure please be sure to post the results

I've gotten different answers as well, so to be safe, I treat them as meters. If I'm wrong, at least I"m being conservative

Meters are longer than yards. You're being liberal.

Your liberal bias is overwhelming.

At the Lifetime Fitness I use (a few others I've been in), the indoor pool is 25 meters, but the outdool pool is 25 yards.  (Yes, I've walked them off to confirm they are different.)

The Magic Johnson Sport @ Royal & 75 and the Sport at Beltline & DNT are both 25 yards, I've measured them.

I belong to LA Fitness as well and have been wondering the same thing. I've been treating it as 25 yards, but it would be great if it was actually meters. Maybe I'll give a couple of them in the area a call and see what they tell me.

It is like all the others it should be 25 meters the new ones follow the same format but who knows - I am about 1/2 mile from that corner - can't wait.

Just called five of the LA Fitnesses in my area - four said 25 meters and one said 25 yards. Of course, when I asked the guy that told me 25 yards and told him that others had told me 25 meters, he assured me he had "looked into that very question". I think I'm going with meters.

I remember when I first switched to 24 hour to swim. My previous pool was 25m and so I asked what the length of the pool there was, and they said 25m, which made me happy.

So I finish my first workout and behold, my times had suddenly made a fairly good leap forward. Instantly gained speed... or the pool was just yards.

I agree with Davidb... the Lifetime I use in Plano is 25m indoors and 25y outdoors.  Makes perfect sense.

Surprised

Also, if you have a fairly good base in swimming, then you might know what your average stroke is per 25m vs 25y.  That might be another way to check, albeit a little less scientific than a tape measurer.  I am neither scientific, nor do I have a good swim base, so I asked several employees from several Lifetimes, including a master instructor from this site, and they all confirmed 25m indoors.  I actually had to go back and change my logs, because I went the conservative direction (the real one...hehe) and assumed yards.  Now I am a swimming machine, just based on a mouse click!

I work as a group fitness instructor at both LA Fitness and Life Time Fitness.  In every LA Fitness location in which I've worked or worked out, the pool is 25 yards.  All Life Time Fitness facilities are built to the same specifications.  The indoor lap lanes are 25 meters, the outdoor are 25 yards and, as an added bonus, the width of the indoor leisure pool is 25 yards and has lane markings (but not ropes) so if the lap pool is full and there is no family swim or aqua aerobics class in session that's an option.
