Pre-race routine:

Up at 2:45am, used the bathroom and ate a PB bagel, banana, powerbar some water and powerade. Met the team to get on the bus to the race start.
Event warmup:

Used the walk to the start as a warmup, it was about a mile of walking.
Run
  • 3h 09m 5s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 07m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

I went out and felt great, so I got caught up in the moment and took off. I felt strong through the first 18 miles, then I started thinking too much and the wheels started coming off at about mile 21 but thankfully I kept it together.

5 mile - 35:27
10 mile - 1:10:05
13.1 mile - 1:31:28
20 mile - 2:20:19

Everything was where I wanted it to be, but it got towards the end. I've just got to get stronger and be smarter during my tempo runs and long runs. I think there's potential to go sub-3 at the Hamptons Marathon in September.

The run got real tough and it took some real mental effort to keep going, I learned a ton about the sport and myself today.
What would you do differently?:

Better pacing, overall smarter racing. This was a good experience for a first marathon, I've still got a lot to learn.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of walking after the finish, tons of eating and drinking. Got my stretching done and took an ice bath at the hotel.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of experience with the distance and not strong enough tempo/distance runs.

Event comments:

Overall a good race, lots to look at and keep your mind off of running. Running with Team In Training was a huge help, it was an emotional day and the other TNT folks were a huge help out there.

Awesome Job qualifying for Boston. Our times are pretty much the same for the first ten miles, we were probably running right next to each other.
