Moraga is putting on their 2nd triathlon, for anyone in the Bay Area. It's a small triathlon, less than 400 people, on a nice course. A pool swim, with 10 second seeded stagger starts, and a few hills, especially on the run.

Last year was a well organized tri, so this year should be even better. It's a nice early season tune up sprint, and with the pool swim, a nice way to get introduced to triathlons while still having the black line under you.

Looks like fun...but can't afford it...wish I could, would be a nice warm up.

Yeah, I think I will be doing this one...it will be the longest "sprint" for me, but I'm training for it...

It is on the pricey side though, but I will spend more in gas if I go somewhere else...like the TBF races in Rancho Seco or Granite Bay

I'm in ANY triathlon where all I have to do is wake up at home at 6:30, coast down a 1/2 mile hill, and still make it in time for a 7:00 AM start .

Let me know if you're doing it.

I'm with Brian on this.  It was a great event last year.  As far as I could tell there were no problems by the race coordinators.  It was a blast.  Couple of comments:

1.  Right after the t2 you run for about 1/4 of a mile and then you get one tremendous hill.  Many people walked up part of it--it is doable, but just be ready.

2.  The bike ride is wonderful.  The Moraga police did a great job of traffic control.  The ride heads down to the mighty burg of Canyon.  It is very scenic and a great ride for training non race day.

3.  The pool start is interesting.  You swim down one lane and then flip under the ropes to the next lane and then head back.  In hindsight I should have tried it in a pool a bunch of time.  The lanes are wide enough to allow for pretty seamless passing.

4.  Great community support.

I have wildflower the next week--but I may do this at 90% as a warm-up for that event.

Hope to see you guys there!

Hi, I am a real newby. I have done some decent biking, taught myself to swim- somewhat last summer but don't really run well and hope to complete the Treeline along with several other 40+ something ladies. From the threads, it sounds like a this is a good competiton to lose ones tratholon virginity.
Any advice is welcome.
Thanks,
Eileen

Hello and welcome!

I would also recommend to do the Emeryville triathlon as a very 1st tri...its only 100m swim, 2.5 bike and 1.2 run..very short and lot's of fun!!

 Have fun!

That's an expensive spring tri if you ask me... Tri for Real in Sacramento has a Olympic distance tri that costs less than this one...

It's all in the perception, I guess. I think that the Napa Sprint at $100 is expensive.

The Tri For Funs Sprints in Pleasanton are $55/$65 for individuals with no timing. The Tri For Real Sprint is $65/$75. See Jane Tri Sprint in Pleasanton is $65/$75 So, Moraga, at $70/$80, is $5 more expensive than the other similar events around here. I would guess at least some of that is the pool rental.

At least it's not $320 for the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon

My sister-in-law is doing Moraga as her first tri, and asked me to race it with her.

I'm not sure if I racing a Sprint the week before my Napa HIM is the best idea, but gotta support the sis.  So, I just signed up.  See ya'll at the starting line.

I just sent in my registration form. It'll be the first tri that I've completed. Woo Woo!!

I'll be the one starting in the back of the swim, with an actual tri-bike. I'm sure I'm going to get some very strange looks.

I'm hoping/planning (?) to do the emeryville one.  That's about week 4 of my couch to tri program so the super short distances seems just great.    I need to find a couch to surf the night before and convince the hubby to stay home with the kids unless I can find couches to surf us all

pre-rode and pre-ran the course yesterday....was a great beautiuf bike ride - lots of rolling hills with a few climbs but then WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE downhill!...the run is in a nice neighborhood...but OMG...be ready for a steep hill! and then some rolly polly with a slight upward grade then down to the finish....definitely going to be a challenge for me...since this is my first....but I just intend to finish...not break any records...not that I have any to break anyways!
